• Perform comprehensive monthly bookkeeping and reconciliations to guarantee precise reporting up to the balance sheet level.
• Handle all SARS e-filing submissions, including VAT returns, ensuring full compliance with South African tax laws and COIDA annual return mandates.
• Supervise the monthly payroll processing for a small team and ensure the secure execution of bank payment uploads.
• Lead the compilation of annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards.
• Facilitate a lean start-up model by effectively deploying and implementing cloud-based accounting systems and integrated online tools.
• At least 5 years of experience in a finance leadership or management position, particularly within an SME or start-up context.
• Proven experience in preparing financial statements and a comprehensive understanding of South African tax regulations.
• Ability to work autonomously and efficiently in a virtual, high-performance environment.
• A Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline is preferred.
• Professional accreditation (e.g., SAIPA or AGA(SA)) is a plus.
• Experience in the education or technology industries.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel at an advanced level.
• Familiarity with SARS e-Filing.
• Knowledge of cloud-based accounting systems (e.g., Xero, Sage One, or Zoho Books).
• Experience with online collaboration tools (e.g., Slack, Google Workspace, or Trello).
