Founding Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.

📋 Description

• Audit, enhance, and assume complete responsibility for the existing codebase and architecture of the product.

• Develop and deploy features from start to finish utilizing Python, FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, Alembic, WebSockets, and Next.js, making informed decisions throughout the entire technology stack.

• Design and advance the database schema, including writing and maintaining Alembic migrations alongside SQLAlchemy models.

• Create and sustain real-time features using WebSockets as appropriate.

• Manage infrastructure and deployment processes on Railway, ensuring the platform's reliability and scalability.

• Create and uphold unit and integration tests to guarantee the product's reliability and long-term maintainability.

• Collaborate closely with the founder on a daily basis, translating the vision into a delivered product.

• Establish technical direction and engineering best practices as the inaugural engineer on the team — your standards will become the team's standards.

• Work with and mentor other developers as the engineering team expands.

⛳️ Requirements

• 5–6 years of experience in full-stack software engineering, with a robust understanding of system architecture across both front-end and back-end.

• Extensive professional experience with Python, FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, Alembic, WebSockets, and contemporary React frameworks like Next.js.

• Strong SQL capabilities and practical experience in designing, querying, and optimizing PostgreSQL databases.

• Experience in designing relational databases and managing schema modifications through Alembic migrations.

• Experience in developing or maintaining real-time applications utilizing WebSockets.

• Proven track record in writing and managing unit and integration tests, emphasizing the creation of reliable, well-tested software.

• Familiarity with deploying and operating applications in cloud environments (experience with Railway is advantageous).

• Basic understanding of AI/LLM technologies (such as OpenAI APIs, prompt engineering, retrieval, or AI-driven product features) is a plus, as we aim to integrate AI capabilities into the product over time.

• A founder mindset — someone who challenges concepts, suggests improved solutions, and takes initiative rather than just completing assigned tasks.

• Experience in building products from the ground up in startup settings, comfortable with rapid pace and wearing multiple hats.

• Organized, proactive, and a highly logical communicator.

• Proficient in written and spoken English for daily collaboration with the founder.
