Forward-Deployed Engineer – AWS Platform, SRE Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Slovenia.

📋 Description

• Design and establish a standalone AWS environment for the team, including landing zone, networking, IAM, and security, guided by Viaduct's best practices while tailored to our specific requirements.

• Set up, configure, and integrate new platform features as required by the team (e.g., Dagster OSS on Kubernetes workers, CI/CD integration).

• Create and sustain a streamlined process for deploying internal Python/TS web application prototypes, ensuring external accessibility and Okta-based access control.

• Be responsible for the observability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of all production operations.

• Proactively detect and address robustness, scalability, and operational issues before they escalate into incidents.

• Develop automation to alleviate infrastructure burdens from the rest of the team.

• Guarantee that production systems remain secure, regularly backed up, and updated with minimal downtime.

• Collaborate closely with IE engineers, product managers, and leadership on infrastructure requirements and trade-offs, while also aligning with the broader Viaduct engineering organization.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience in AWS operations and administration - you have designed and managed production AWS environments rather than merely using ones created by others.

• Strong expertise in Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform, Terragrunt, or comparable).

• Proficient in Kubernetes (Helm, Kustomize, kubectl) and GitOps methodologies (Argo CD, Flux, or similar).

• Experience in constructing CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Argo Workflows, or similar).

• Comfortable making independent infrastructure decisions with incomplete information within a small, agile team.

• Bonus: Familiarity with Dagster, ClickHouse/Postgres administration, or Okta/SSO integration.
