Forensic Electrical Engineer, P.E.

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida.

📋 Description

• Conduct analysis of power systems.

• Identify the source and cause of fire and explosion-related losses.

• Evaluate failures of electronic devices, appliances, and consumer products.

• Perform analyses of lightning strike damages and the causes of electric shocks/electrocutions.

• Assess damage from power surges and carry out evaluations following storms.

• Inspect loss sites and incidents at residential, commercial, and industrial properties.

• Investigate and evaluate damages and evidence from failures to ascertain their origins.

• Analyze and document the rationale behind failures and their causative factors.

• Examine and test evidence in laboratory conditions, researching failure modes, products, installations, and maintenance associated with findings.

• Collaborate with fellow experts to compile comprehensive reports detailing the origins and causes of losses and damages.

• Act as an expert witness in court proceedings and/or depositions.

• Keep thorough records of billable hours on a time and expense basis for forensic engineering and failure analysis projects.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution is required.

• A Professional Engineer (PE) license is necessary, with a minimum requirement for the resident state.

• Multi-state licensing and/or an active NCEES Record is preferred.

• Experience providing expert witness testimony is advantageous.

• A solid foundation in power system analysis, relevant codes and standards, equipment and system failures, fire origin and cause, lightning and surge damage assessment, product liability, and construction defects is essential.
