This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ireland.

📋 Description

• An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Aircraft Flight Test Instrumentation (FTI) Installation Design Lead.

• The ideal candidate will showcase their ability to lead the design, integration, and documentation of sensors and data acquisition systems across various test aircraft programs.

• With the backing of Project Management, they will oversee the entire lifecycle from design to installation, ensuring adherence to airworthiness standards and collaborating with structural teams, while providing technical leadership to an international design team to achieve flight test schedules and milestones.

• Lead teams of engineers from various countries, resolve integration issues, and offer guidance to customer instrumentation technicians during installation and calibration.

• Liaise with customer structural design offices, manufacturing, flight test engineers, systems engineers, and airworthiness authorities to guarantee compliance.

• Maintain direct communication with the customer/OEM to support their needs and, in collaboration with the commercial project team, uphold technical agreements through the SOW and ECM processes.

• Define FTI installation layouts, wiring harnesses, and structural integration/interfaces, focusing on weight optimization, safety, and manufacturability.

• Deliver technical expertise for the creation, review, and handover of 3D CAD models (e.g., CATIA V5) as well as 2D definitions for FTI electrical routing and installations (including racks, wiring, antennas, sensors, support brackets).

• Provide technical support to the customer for successful PDR/CDR gate reviews and manage any post-gate review exceptions.

• Assess new instrumentation technologies and create innovative tools or methods to enhance efficiency.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electronic Engineering.

• Candidates with lower academic qualifications may be considered if they demonstrate a higher level of experience in FTI integration and team/project leadership.

• Proficient in CATIA V5 (or similar 3D CAD), PLM tools (e.g., 3DEXP, VPM, TEAMCENTER), and have a solid understanding of sensor technologies (such as accelerometers, pressure transducers, thermocouples).

• Comprehensive knowledge of aircraft electrical systems, mechanical installations, data acquisition systems, and EMI/EMC guidelines.

• Strong familiarity with EASA EWIS regulations and CS-25 certification requirements.

• In-depth understanding of aircraft zone management, wiring degradation factors, and system safety principles.

• Exceptional project management and team leadership abilities with the capability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams.

• Outstanding communication and technical reporting skills.

• Capability to manage suppliers, evaluate technical risks, and ensure project quality and compliance.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.

• Commercial awareness crucial for project success.

• A strong customer support focus, ensuring timely completion of instrumentation deliverables and quality in definition outputs while minimizing installation design errors.

• Familiarity with PLM tools, documentation standards, and engineering configuration control.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Jira).

• Additional language skills in European languages (e.g., French or German) would be an advantage.
