Flight Nurse – Float

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +3 more states.

📋 Description

• Deliver nursing care from the initial patient interaction until the transfer to the receiving medical facility.

• Evaluate, triage, treat, and prioritize care for critically ill or injured patients during secure transport.

• Ensure comprehensive patient care documentation along with maintaining necessary licensure, certification, training, and clinical records.

• Maintain professional competency through laboratory, clinical, continuing education, and advanced skills experiences.

• Operate and upkeep medical equipment and supplies; report malfunctions and initiate repair processes.

• Keep the aircraft clean and organized while ensuring adequate onboard supplies are available.

• Attend pre-mission briefings and post-mission debriefings, completing all required documentation.

• Assist with liftoff checklists and support pilots with radio communications, navigation, and visual observation tasks.

• Conduct aircraft safety briefings and adhere to established safety standards.

• Assist with neonatal and pediatric specialty transports and execute approved advanced procedures.

• Engage in patient and referring institution follow-up, as well as outreach marketing and education initiatives.

• Mentor and orient new employees and students.

• Participate in meetings, activities, projects, committees, research, and publishing ventures.

• Complete scheduled 24-hour shifts at CBS bases where currently licensed.

⛳️ Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.

• Minimum of three (3) years of recent critical care/emergency nursing experience within the past 5 years or as mandated by state/local EMS regulations.

• One year of full-time flight experience is required.

• Current RN license(s) for the states of practice where Air Methods operates CBS locations.

• Nurse compact license is preferred.

• EMS or MICN certification/licensure as required by state regulations.

• Current Healthcare Provider BLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS or equivalent, and TNCC/ITLS/PHTLS advanced-provider certifications as required by state or county.

• Specialty certification required: CFRN, CCRN, or CEN.

• One approved advanced trauma course is necessary: TNCC, ATLS/ATCN, TPATC, or a CAMTS-approved course.

• Current NRP certification.

• NIMS Training IS 100, 200, 700, 800, and HazMat.

• Must maintain a weight not exceeding 225 pounds, which includes the empty flight suit and boots.

• Nursing and advanced-practice skills must align with the assigned state scope of practice and Medical Director standards.

• Strong skills in critical thinking, reasoning, prioritization, multitasking, communication, presentation, and interpersonal interactions.

• Capability to work flexible schedules including 24-hour shifts, overtime, and on-call rotations.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

• Availability to complete at least two 24-hour shifts per week at any CBS base where currently licensed.
