Financial Controller – EMEA North and ME

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Accountable for completing month-end accounting within strict deadlines.

• Submit month-end financial statements for the UK, Ireland, Sweden, and Romania for review and approval by the EMEA Financial Controller.

• Provide analysis for monthly, quarterly, and annual variances against Plan/Forecast on costs, with significant discrepancies thoroughly investigated and justified to the EMEA Financial Controller.

• Take ownership and conduct the initial review of all balance sheet account reconciliations, preparing necessary information on a monthly basis for review with the EMEA Financial Controller.

• Prepare annual statutory reporting requirements and serve as the primary contact for the annual audit of the legal entities in Ireland, Sweden, and Romania, as well as for the Sophos Ltd Representative Offices in Dubai and Thailand.

• Assist in the preparation of annual statutory reporting requirements and support the interim and annual audits for Sophos Ltd.

• Manage sales tax (VAT), withholding tax, and all indirect and corporate income tax returns, ensuring compliance with reporting deadlines for filings and payments, while accurately completing all tax questionnaires for the Ireland entity.

• Coordinate and prepare detailed monthly cash flow forecasts and reports for the UK, Ireland, Sweden, and Romania entities to be included in the Group forecast, ensuring adherence to corporate treasury policy throughout.

• Responsible for the analysis of the corporation tax pack for review by the EMEA Financial Controller.

• Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual surveys for the Office for National Statistics.

• Create and manage a timetable outlining tasks for monthly activities, overseeing and monitoring these activities to ensure a smooth and timely close. Ensure that accounting and reporting activities are documented in a procedure manual that is continuously updated and maintained.

• Ensure compliance with all internal policies and controls (e.g., expenses, travel policy), providing thorough reviews and sign-offs.

• Support other finance and accounting functions (e.g., tax, commercial finance) in the analysis of data, including assistance with the annual R&D Tax Credit submission.

• Knowledge of accounting practices and standards under IFRS and UK GAAP.

• Experience working with external auditors, tax advisors, and local consultants.

• Practical experience in all facets of month-end and annual closing accounting.
