This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Wisconsin.
• Calculates and provides personalized financial responsibility estimates for patients based on their insurance coverage before receiving services.
• Clearly and accurately communicates patient liability while thoroughly explaining concepts such as deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments, and their impact on care costs.
• Describes how non-covered and out-of-network services contribute to the overall out-of-pocket expenses.
• Requests upfront payments for self-pay amounts, including estimated out-of-pocket costs and any outstanding previous balances.
• Sets up payment arrangements prior to scheduled services when relevant, detailing due dates and the amount due for each installment.
• Conducts interviews with uninsured patients to evaluate their financial needs for potential qualification.
• Identifies available assistance programs and collaborates with patients to complete necessary paperwork and applications for any possible coverage.
• Continues to follow up to secure funding sources for the patient's healthcare services.
• Initiates credit scoring to assess each patient’s eligibility for Medicaid, hospital-sponsored charity care, and other programs through a detailed patient interview.
• Works alongside state social workers and/or external eligibility vendors to ensure accurate Medicaid application completion, maximizing funding based on patient eligibility.
• Remains informed about regulations and eligibility criteria for government funding, particularly Medicare and Medicaid.
• Collaborates with colleagues to streamline operations for uninsured patients or those concerned about costs for upcoming services.
• High School Diploma, or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED), or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED).
• Generally requires 2 years of experience in Patient Access, healthcare, the insurance industry, or a customer service environment.
• Strong understanding of various insurance types, particularly regarding denials and appeals processes.
• Basic knowledge of medical coding.
• Familiarity with insurance policies, billing, and denial processes.
• Ability to utilize a mix of scripted notes and clear written communication for documenting in patient accounts.
