This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +3 more states.
• Lead comprehensive bookkeeping, oversee monthly closing processes, and ensure precise preparation of financial statements.
• Implement tracking for Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) by channel and product.
• Develop and take ownership of organization-wide budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
• Create and maintain a retail-focused contribution margin model that addresses distribution, trade marketing, slotting, and other retail-specific cost structures that differ from Direct-to-Consumer (DTC).
• Collaborate with the founding team to establish the financial rationale for retail expansion initiatives, including pricing strategies, store count, and SKU selection.
• Set up labor cost and budget monitoring by business unit, linked to Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC), Lifetime Value (LTV), and Marketing Efficiency Ratio (MER) metrics.
• Prepare for the future finance function's growth, including team expansion as the scope increases.
• Report directly to the CEO while working closely with the Head of Data.
• Deliver a dynamic financial model analysis that encompasses unit economics, cash flow, inventory forecasting, scaling, and reorder cycles.
• Strong foundation in accounting principles.
• Capable of independently managing financial records and monthly closings as the company’s inaugural dedicated finance professional.
• Proven experience in financial planning and analysis (FP&A) within a growth-oriented consumer or DTC brand.
• Direct experience in modeling retail unit economics.
• Awareness that retail performance is driven by velocity and margin.
• Proficient in establishing and formalizing processes and infrastructure in accounting and FP&A.
• Demonstrated ability to convey financial complexities in actionable terms for individuals without finance backgrounds.
• Significant availability during US business hours; Central Time Zone / CST preferred.
