This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +7 more states.
• Install, maintain, repair, and calibrate electron microscopy systems, including SEM, TEM, and FIB systems.
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance to guarantee optimal system performance.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose intricate system issues related to electronics, vacuum systems, high-voltage components, and integrated software.
• Deliver technical support to customers and collaborate with field service engineers to tackle service challenges.
• Cultivate customer relationships while ensuring satisfaction and system uptime.
• Travel to customer locations to install equipment, conduct repairs, and assist with system operations.
• Document service activities thoroughly and submit detailed field service reports.
• Offer training and technical guidance to customers regarding system operation and maintenance.
• Adhere to safety protocols and quality standards in laboratory settings.
• Provide constructive feedback to engineering, product quality, and service leadership teams for ongoing product enhancement.
• Assist in updating technical documentation and service procedures.
• At advanced levels, mentor junior engineers, lead complex installations, and act as a technical escalation resource.
• Support Thermo Fisher Scientific’s mission to deliver microscopy workflow solutions for scientific, environmental, food safety, and healthcare applications.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on technical experience in electronic systems.
• Field Service Engineer I: Minimum of 1 year of practical technical experience installing, troubleshooting, repairing, or calibrating sophisticated analytical equipment such as SEM, TEM, FIB, or similar systems.
• Field Service Engineer II: At least 3 years of hands-on experience installing, troubleshooting, repairing, or calibrating complex analytical instrumentation.
• Field Service Engineer III: 5 or more years of experience supporting advanced analytical systems and diagnosing complex system-level issues.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license.
• Willingness to travel up to 75% within the assigned territory.
• Capacity to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in laboratory environments.
• Proficiency in English is required.
• Practical experience with SEM, TEM, FIB, or comparable advanced analytical systems.
• Experience in diagnosing and repairing ultra-high vacuum (UHV) systems.
• Background in working with high voltage equipment.
• Strong skills in electronics and mechanical troubleshooting, including component-level diagnosis.
• Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, schematics, and system diagrams.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and service management software.
• Experience in documenting service activities and preparing comprehensive reports.
• Proven commitment to safety protocols and quality standards.
• Ability to work autonomously in a field-based environment.
• Capability to train and support customers on system operation.
