
Field Service Engineer – Automation

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.
• Execute installation and commissioning, calibration, preventive maintenance, and repair services on various systems.
• Oversee the maintenance of fault-finding data and provide product performance feedback to both customers and internal teams within Sartorius.
• Furthermore, you will develop comprehensive product knowledge and pursue self-improvement.
• Conduct a range of in-house service activities as required at the Delaware office.
• Adhere to all service procedures to ensure Sartorius’ customer information and product software/configuration are current and precise.
• Maintain accurate records of time, expenses, and completed work.
• Make autonomous decisions regarding the repair of field equipment in accordance with service level agreements and customer support contract details.
• Collaborate with teams to escalate unresolved system issues to the appropriate Product Support Engineer, Customer Support Engineer, and Hardware Resource Coordinator.
• Travel is expected to be up to approximately 80% (mainly within an assigned territory).
• An associate degree in mechanical/electrical engineering or equivalent military or trade school certifications in electronics/electrical technology.
• Formal training in mechanical/electrical hardware setup and configuration.
• Experience in field or building services engineering may be considered in lieu of formal qualifications.
• A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a commissioning/test or field service/support role within a high-tech engineering/manufacturing environment, preferably with capital equipment.
• A valid Driver's License and passport, or the ability to obtain them.
• Proficiency in electrical, mechanical, and I/O fault-finding at both system and component levels.
• Experience with automation and/or robotics is highly advantageous.
• Familiarity with automatic mechanisms and their corresponding electrical control systems.
• Must possess experience measuring AC/DC voltages competently.
• Hands-on experience with robotics, motors, conveyor systems, input/output modules, optical readers, pneumatics, and electromechanical assemblies.
• Strong communication skills to effectively build relationships with team members and customers.
• A solid understanding of mechanical/electrical drawings.
• Proven problem-solving abilities.
• Capability to effectively train and manage customers in utilizing our products.
• Proficient in computer use and familiar with MS Office.
• Good comprehension of mechanical and electrical schematics.
• Experience in installing software and firmware updates/testing.
• Conduct customer maintenance and best practice training.
• Calibration of control systems, such as temperature and/or volume.
• Knowledge of clean room protocols, drug discovery, process development, cell culture technologies, and GMP environments would be beneficial.
• Understanding of both mammalian and microbial cell cultures.
• Familiarity with bioreactors and their application in growing cell cultures.
• Experience configuring PCs and installing software packages (Windows OS).

• Experience with automated systems such as robotics is a plus.
• Experience with automated equipment in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry is an advantage.
