This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +4 more states.
• The Fiber Optic Splicer 2 will be tasked with splicing and testing fiber optic cables both underground and in various indoor (ISP) and outdoor (OSP) environments.
• Read, develop, and maintain splicing schematics and diagrams, as well as create and manage accurate splicing and field documentation.
• Ensure effective management of both outside plant (OSP) and inside plant (ISP) activities in relation to the designated work area(s).
• Assist in meeting project deadlines by keeping precise notes for as-built project documentation.
• Conduct splicing and testing of fiber optic cables in both indoor and outdoor environments, ensuring accuracy and compliance with technical standards.
• Efficiently diagnose and resolve fiber optic issues, employing suitable tools and techniques to uphold network integrity.
• Analyze test results to detect and correct any inconsistencies.
• Keep detailed records of splicing activities, test outcomes, and network configurations.
• Collaborate closely with fellow Fiber Splicing team members to train and support entry-level technicians while ensuring compliance with quality standards.
• Carry out regular maintenance and repairs on fiber optic networks, which includes inspecting and cleaning optical fibers and connectors.
• Oversee the inventory of splicing tools and equipment, making sure that all necessary tools are in optimal working condition and properly stored.
• Stay updated on the latest advancements in fiber optic technology and techniques.
• Hold a Splicing Certificate or possess the capability to obtain certification through training programs.
• Follow all safety protocols and procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to company safety regulations.
• Experience with fusion splicing and mechanical connector termination.
• Proficient in splicing direct buried fiber in outside plant environments.
• Able to splice both armored and non-armored loose tube fiber.
• Capable of splicing multi-count fibers with strand counts up to 96.
• Proficient in splicing and terminating mechanical connectors on indoor/outdoor tight buffered fiber.
• Experience using OTDRs for testing purposes.
• Familiarity with Fluke Versiv and EXFO is advantageous.
• A minimum of 2 years of experience in Fiber Optic Fusion Splicing.
• Experience with Preformed Line Products, AFL, and Corning splicing materials, including wall mount and rack mount enclosures, splicing cassettes, outside plant direct bury rated splicing enclosures, and trays.
