This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Oversee Amgen’s search and evaluation processes.
• Negotiate and finalize specific transactions for external partnerships centered on small molecule drug discovery.
• Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with the overall business objectives.
• Contribute to and implement Amgen’s external strategy.
• Build and maintain a global network of influential industry and academic contacts.
• Manage the search and identification of opportunities through effective networking.
• Lead the technical evaluation of potential opportunities.
• Establish and oversee cross-functional review teams.
• Participate in business negotiations.
• Collaborate closely with senior management, R&D, and other departments.
• Develop priorities for collaboration, licensing, or mergers and acquisitions of external innovations.
• Mentor others and present yourself as a respected professional to both internal colleagues and external stakeholders.
• Doctorate degree in a scientific discipline and 4 years of experience in the drug development industry and/or biopharma business development.
• Alternatively, a Master’s degree in a scientific field with 7 years of experience in the drug development industry and/or biopharma business development.
• Or a Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field with 9 years of experience in R&D and/or biopharma business development.
• In-depth knowledge of discovery and technology platforms.
• A minimum of 4 years of management and/or leadership experience in business and drug development activities.
• Strong technical R&D experience combined with business development and licensing expertise.
• Excellent leadership, scientific, organizational, communication, and project management abilities.
• Outstanding presentation skills.
• Effective communication skills related to scientific and business development matters.
• Proven ability to anticipate and resolve issues, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
• Strong team player with experience successfully managing direct reports and the ability to effectively interact with staff across various functional areas.
• Proven capability to establish and maintain relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
• Professional demeanor with strong decision-making skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage large cross-functional teams, and mentor individuals.
