This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Malta.
• Engage in worldbuilding by utilizing greybox and whitebox techniques alongside the Design department to validate gameplay during the initial phases.
• Strategically plan and implement the layout of both main and decorative assets while considering gameplay mechanics and narrative elements.
• Innovatively combine various assets from the Project’s Asset Library to maximize creative potential.
• Collaborate effectively with the Environment Team to address asset requirements for the level.
• When applicable, work with terrain both inside and outside the Game Engine to meet level specifications.
• Assist the team in adhering to performance budgets and make any necessary adjustments to align with the targeted scope of the level.
• Manage any project structure and gameplay-related demands generated by a level.
• Lighting: Develop a lighting plan and gather references to illustrate the desired visual outcome.
• Prepare the scene for lighting by refining the layout and establishing the essential conditions.
• Illuminate the scene according to specified lighting conditions, utilizing either Baked or Realtime Lights.
• Generate various lighting scenarios based on pre-existing, lit scenes.
• Employ Visual Effects to enhance focus on particular lighting conditions.
• Collaborate with Post Processing to enhance the game's visuals in accordance with platform requirements.
• Manage any light and post-processing-related tasks necessary for completing the level.
• Development: Work in coordination with the Art Director and Art Lead to align on the game's artistic style under development.
• Collaborate closely with Producers to monitor the development timeline.
• Demonstrate flexibility by temporarily sacrificing quality during early asset development to maintain project schedules, followed by refining and polishing at the appropriate stages.
• Take a proactive approach to research and propose solutions for various development challenges that may arise.
• A minimum of 2.5 years of professional experience as a Level Artist within the Games Industry.
• Comprehensive knowledge of Unreal and Unity game engines, as well as terrain generation tools like World Machine or Gaia.
• Proficiency in modeling software such as 3d Studio Max or Maya, along with Photoshop.
• Ability to work from concepts or references while also being creative and contributing to the direction of any level.
• Skill in determining when to create quick prototypes, when to prioritize time over quality, and when to focus on refinement.
• A passion for collaboration and teamwork.
• Openness to providing and receiving direction, along with the capability to adapt to change.
• Enthusiasm for playing and creating games with a mindset focused on innovation and improvement.
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
• Experience in developing Open World games and understanding its implications on level design (bonus).
• Familiarity with visual scripting (e.g., Blueprints) to facilitate any basic functionality required for a level (bonus).
• Experience with environmental animations for setting up gameplay or visual sequences (bonus).
