This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +1 more state.
• Assess, price, quote, and review both new and renewal business in line with the company’s underwriting guidelines and sound underwriting judgment.
• Work autonomously with wholesale distribution channels to effectively select risks, analyze, and propose program structures, services, and pricing to ensure a balanced portfolio and long-term profitability.
• Cultivate, develop, and uphold robust business relationships to generate consistent opportunities for new business placements while retaining existing accounts.
• Possess specific experience or fundamental skills to present and advocate for book dynamics/profile during reinsurance treaty meetings.
• Leverage facultative relationships and capacity to maintain prescribed net positions within the Palomar E&S portfolio.
• Demonstrate proficiency in underwriting Primary and Excess Construction and/or Excess Non-construction risks within the E&S space.
• Assess reinsurance needs and take appropriate actions, including treaty compliance and facultative solutions.
• Contribute to the mentoring and coaching of junior underwriters.
• Share industry-specific knowledge with underwriters at all levels while serving as a technical underwriting resource.
• As a unit leader, exemplify expected performance by generating new business alongside fulfilling product management responsibilities.
• Continuously enhance personal knowledge and practices of the insurance industry through work experience, in-house training, insurance-specific designations (e.g., CPCU), industry courses, home office seminars, and workshops.
• Support the Junior Underwriter mentoring process.
• Over 15 years of experience in the insurance sector, particularly in underwriting within the E&S environment.
• CPCU and/or ARM professional insurance designations are highly preferred.
• An entrepreneurial mindset with a willingness to take calculated risks.
• Strong ability to think creatively and innovatively.
• Capable of quickly establishing and nurturing functional working relationships.
