This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee the complete editorial and technical process of a daily live show, which includes "calling the show" from the control room or supervising the Director to ensure a dynamic and visually appealing broadcast.
• Manage the daily "pitch-to-air" cycle, curating the show rundown to strike the ideal balance of breaking news, in-depth analysis, and audience engagement.
• Lead a specialized team of technical directors, audio engineers, and camera operators, promoting a culture of "live excellence" where technical issues are addressed swiftly and efficiently.
• Collaborate closely with prominent hosts and analysts, providing instantaneous feedback via IFB to steer pacing, tone, and transitions during live segments.
• Supervise the visual presentation of the show, utilizing multi-camera setups, remote guest integrations, and real-time graphics to achieve a high-quality appearance.
• Work alongside the newsroom to ensure live coverage is in sync with and highlights The Athletic’s reporting, while partnering with the social/growth teams to enhance the "clippability" of live moments for post-show distribution.
• Collaborate with commercial teams to seamlessly incorporate live-read sponsorships and custom branded segments into the broadcast, maintaining editorial integrity.
• Team up with production partners and software developers to create custom chat integrations that enable audience participation in real time during streams (e.g., polls, Q&As, trivia).
• 10+ Years of Live Experience: Demonstrated success in a "Seat 1" role (EP or Senior Producer) for daily live sports, news, or talk programming.
• Control Room Expertise: Profound understanding of live studio environments, including multi-camera directing, switcher functions, graphics integration (Chyron/Ross), and remote contribution tools (SRT/LiveU).
• Master of Pacing: A natural instinct for "live timing"—knowing when to allow a segment to unfold and when to transition to keep the audience engaged.
• Sports Fluency: In-depth knowledge of the sports landscape; must be able to swiftly adjust the show’s direction based on breaking news or changes in the leaderboard.
• Crisis Management: Capability to stay composed and make decisive choices under the stress of technical difficulties or live breaking news.
• Tech-Forward Mindset: Familiarity with contemporary livestreaming workflows (RTMP, vMix, OBS) as well as traditional linear broadcast standards.
• Travel: Willingness to travel as necessary for significant events (Super Bowl, Draft, etc.) to produce live on-site editions of the show.
• Medical, dental, and vision benefits
• Flexible Spending Accounts (F.S.A.s)
• A company-matching 401(k) plan
• Paid vacation
• Paid sick days
• Paid parental leave
• Tuition reimbursement
• Professional development programs
