This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Create and execute strategic initiatives that support firefighter families, emphasizing mental health, family relationships, and emotional resilience.
• Approach with empathy and a deep understanding of the distinct challenges encountered by firefighter families, ensuring the foundation’s programs effectively address their specific needs.
• Collaborate with the Board of Directors to set long-term objectives and ensure consistency with the foundation’s mission.
• Supervise the design and implementation of programs and events aimed at enhancing the well-being and mental health of firefighter families.
• Remain abreast of new developments in psychological health, trauma, and stress management, particularly those impacting first responder families.
• Partner with mental health professionals, social workers, and community organizations to provide valuable services and support to firefighter families.
• Formulate and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy, including grant writing, individual donor engagement, corporate partnerships, and events.
• Proactively identify and secure new funding opportunities to ensure the foundation's financial viability.
• Build and maintain relationships with current donors, sponsors, and potential philanthropic partners.
• Act as the primary representative for the foundation, advocating for the mental health and well-being of firefighter families at public events, media channels, and industry gatherings.
• Develop relationships with fire departments, firefighter unions, community leaders, mental health professionals, and policymakers to further the foundation’s mission.
• Engage directly with firefighter families to gain insights into their needs, ensuring the foundation’s services remain pertinent and effective.
• Manage the foundation’s budget and resources to guarantee efficient and effective program execution.
• Oversee all financial activities, including budget preparation, financial reporting, and adherence to nonprofit regulations.
• Develop and implement policies, procedures, and operational frameworks that conform to best practices in nonprofit management.
• Act as the main liaison between the Board of Directors, Council Members, and the foundation’s operations.
• Collaborate with the board to ensure governance practices are established, providing regular updates on the foundation’s progress, financial situation, and strategic initiatives.
• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of leadership experience within a nonprofit, mental health, or first responder support organization.
• Profound understanding of the psychological and emotional challenges that firefighter families face, including trauma, PTSD, stress, and family dynamics.
• Demonstrated experience in fundraising, with a proven history of securing grants, sponsorships, and individual donations.
• Strong leadership and team management capabilities, with the ability to inspire and motivate staff, volunteers, and partners.
• Excellent communication and public speaking abilities, enabling effective representation of the foundation in public settings and media outlets.
• Experience collaborating with a Board of Directors and establishing governance structures for nonprofit organizations.
