This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Nebraska.
• Act as the leading administrative executive and head of the Nebraska Brand Committee
• Enforce and oversee the implementation of Committee policies, procedures, priorities, and directives
• Provide both strategic and operational leadership for statutory duties and organizational goals
• Supervise, coordinate, and assess both full-time and part-time staff
• Counsel the Committee on operational, personnel, financial, regulatory, and organizational issues
• Attend and engage in Committee meetings, hearings, conferences, training sessions, interviews, and official events
• Formulate, administer, monitor, and manage the yearly operating budget
• Supervise agency revenues, expenditures, commitments, fund balances, available resources, and carryover funds
• Create budget forecasts and financial recommendations
• Provide executive oversight for brand inspection operations and enforcement activities
• Ensure inspectors receive appropriate training, guidance, and opportunities for professional growth
• Recruit, interview, hire, manage, evaluate, and oversee agency personnel
• Set expectations and foster a professional, respectful, and accountable working environment
• Maintain relationships with ranchers, livestock owners, feedlots, packing plants, trucking companies, auction markets, financial entities, and stakeholders
• Represent the Nebraska Brand Committee in front of the Nebraska Legislature and legislative committees
• Prepare and deliver testimony regarding agency operations, funding matters, and legislative issues
• Monitor legislation, regulations, and governmental actions that impact the agency and Nebraska’s livestock sector
• Draft and manage official correspondence, reports, communications, and agency documentation
• Address complex or sensitive inquiries, emails, complaints, and requests
• Serve as the authorized spokesperson for the agency when necessary
• Oversee the maintenance of official agency records and Committee proceedings
• Ensure effective management of administrative processes, documentation, reporting, correspondence, and deadlines
• Must reside within the designated brand inspection area of the Nebraska Brand Committee at the time of appointment and maintain residency throughout employment unless otherwise authorized
• Preferred experience in an executive, administrative, supervisory, management, or leadership role
• Preferred background in managing employees, operations, and organizational duties
• Preferred experience in developing, monitoring, and managing budgets and public or organizational funds
• Preferred expertise in managing fund balances, financial planning, and carryover funds
• Preferred experience in making sound financial and operational decisions
• Preferred background working within the livestock sector or a strong understanding of Nebraska’s livestock industry
• Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, agriculture, animal science, livestock management, finance, accounting, or a related field is preferred
• Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered
• Strong executive leadership and organizational management capabilities
• Knowledge of Nebraska’s livestock industry, including livestock production and marketing practices
• Familiarity with brand inspection operations, policies, procedures, statutes, and regulations
• Strong knowledge and proven ability in budget development, fiscal management, expenditure monitoring, and financial planning
• Ability to strategically and responsibly manage agency fund balances and carryover funds
• Strong skills in personnel management and supervision
• Exceptional written and oral communication abilities
• Capability to interpret and apply policies, statutes, regulations, and procedures
• Proficiency with computers, standard office technology, and financial/administrative systems
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic and comprehend financial and budgetary information
• Professional judgment, integrity, accountability, and a commitment to public service
