This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.
• Analyze realistic environmental legal issues and compare various blinded legal work products.
• Examine matters related to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
• Evaluate the legal adequacy of environmental review documents and prepare Environmental Impact Statements.
• Assess environmental consequences, alternatives, pertinent considerations, and applicable NEPA standards.
• Identify significant omissions, unsupported conclusions, weaknesses, or issues that may affect the defensibility of environmental reviews.
• Review CERCLA legal documentation, encompassing liability, contribution, potentially responsible parties, remediation expenses, and disputes regarding environmental liability.
• Analyze CERCLA contribution claims, defense strategies, and liability allocation evaluations.
• Review six blinded legal outputs labeled A–F and undertake five head-to-head comparisons against a common comparator output.
• Choose stronger responses based on substantive legal quality.
• Assess accuracy, completeness, judgment, coherence, supporting reasoning, and practical applicability.
• Provide clear and specific written justifications for each preference decision.
• Adhere to project guidelines and evaluation criteria consistently.
• Licensed attorney with significant professional experience in environmental law.
• Extensive experience in one or more of the following areas: NEPA, Environmental Impact Statements, CERCLA, environmental liability, CERCLA contribution claims, and liability allocation and defense.
• Strong skills in environmental legal analysis.
• Capability to holistically evaluate legal work for accuracy, completeness, judgment, and practical applicability.
• Proficient in precise written English.
• Comfortable with comparing competing legal approaches and articulating preference decisions.
• Able to work independently following detailed written instructions and meeting deadlines.
• Must adhere to NDA and confidentiality standards.
• External AI tools are prohibited for use on project materials.
• Must not utilize confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, institution, or third party.
• H1-B and STEM OPT support are not available for this engagement.
• Fully remote working arrangement.
• Part-time independent contractor position.
• Flexible project duration; projects may be extended, shortened, or concluded based on project requirements and performance.
