Engineering Team Leader

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants anywhere in the world.

📋 Description

• Overseeing a small product team of 3-5 engineers, including both backend and frontend developers.

• Allocating 30% of time to management tasks while actively engaging in product development alongside the team.

• Participating in the recruitment process for their own team and potentially assisting colleagues in their hiring efforts.

• Taking charge of the onboarding process for new engineers in addition to involvement in hiring.

• Acting as the representative for the team, expected to manage team dynamics and optimize performance.

• Providing ongoing and constructive feedback across various aspects.

• Supporting the team's continuous growth and overseeing the career development of each direct report.

• Offering guidance and coaching to the team members.

• Redefining how engineering tasks are executed using autonomous agents as the primary execution layer.

• Suggesting and implementing end-to-end agentic workflows (spec → plan → execute → verify) to enhance delivery speed.

• Creating reusable agentic workflows and primitives within the codebase for repetitive application across various domains.

• Implementing verification processes (tests, checks, evaluations, guardrails) to ensure outcomes are accurate, secure, reliable, and scalable.


⛳️ Requirements

• Experience managing an engineering team of at least 2 individuals.

• Extensive background in Backend development (Elixir/Phoenix, Ruby, or functional programming).

• Dedication to upholding all of Remote's values within the team and the wider organization.

• Strong engineering principles and a proven history of delivering production systems that are secure, reliable, and scalable.

• Practical experience in designing or adopting automation workflows (or similar systems) and enhancing them through iterations.

• Ability to think systematically: clearly define specifications, decompose plans, implement verification, and ensure quality closure.

• Excellent communication skills.

• Thorough knowledge of engineering and development principles and best practices.

• Proven organizational skills with keen attention to detail.

• Focused on optimizing processes while maintaining a kind, people-first approach.

• Capable of inspiring others and fostering confidence.

• Good understanding of team dynamics.

• Ambitious and intentional in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.

• Demonstrates strong automation and AI capabilities along with AI fluency.
