This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Poland, +4 more states.
• Oversee the development and management of CloudLinux’s email security product line, which includes inbound anti-spam filtering and outbound SMTP gateway services.
• Transform the product backlog into a structured engineering plan that includes estimates, dependencies, and a dependable release schedule.
• Conduct weekly planning sessions, readiness reviews for releases, and provide quantitative status updates.
• Take responsibility for engineering quality gates associated with detection-model releases, such as catch-rate and false-positive metrics, as well as rollback strategies.
• Ensure technical debt is visible, funded, and included in the roadmap.
• Provide weekly updates on delivery status and risks to engineering leadership.
• Collaborate with the architecture team to manage the email-stack architecture, which includes design evaluations, Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), and decisions regarding build versus buy.
• Analyze critical-path code and designs related to mail flow, rate limiting, quarantine, and authentication.
• Establish standards for testing, observability, and safe deployment practices.
• Maintain oversight of production health, Service Level Objectives (SLOs), alerting mechanisms, capacity management, and deliverability of sending infrastructure.
• Serve as the incident commander, coordinating remediation efforts, informing partners, and writing post-mortem reports within a 24-hour timeframe.
• Guide a distributed team through one-on-one meetings, goal-setting initiatives, performance evaluations, and career development activities.
• Recruit, interview, onboard, and mentor engineering talent.
• Create agreements for asynchronous work and ensure durable written communication.
• Exemplify and coach the effective use of coding agents and AI-assisted engineering methodologies.
• Collaborate with the Product Owner to prioritize tasks and address scope versus capacity challenges.
• Manage the release train, on-call duties, incident command, reliability risks, and technical roadmap during the initial 90 days.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a software engineer.
• At least 2 years in a leadership role overseeing a team of engineers within a product-oriented company.
• Strong practical experience with Linux systems.
• Proficient in reading and reviewing production code written in Go and/or Python.
• Capable of debugging live systems directly on-site.
• Proven experience in shipping and managing a distributed backend service under actual production conditions.
• Experience in carrying a pager and handling incident management.
• Quick to master complex technical domains and make credible architectural choices.
• Practical understanding of observability and data tools, such as Grafana, Kibana/Elasticsearch, Redash, or similar platforms.
• Demonstrated leadership in people management, including conducting one-on-ones, performance discussions, hiring, and mentoring engineers.
• Experience with agentic or AI-assisted development workflows, or a strong desire to lead such initiatives.
• Professional proficiency in both written and spoken English.
• Availability to work during EU hours.
• Nice to have: Familiarity with SMTP, SPF/DKIM/DMARC, rDNS, IP reputation, warm-up strategies, RBLs, and feedback mechanisms.
• Nice to have: Experience with Rspamd, SpamAssassin, Postfix, Exim, Halon, cPanel/WHM, or other control panel systems.
• Nice to have: Understanding of the ML model lifecycle, training data quality, evaluation metrics, and tuning of detection systems.
