Engineering Manager, Media Foundations – Delivery

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead the modernization of infrastructure: spearhead the architectural transformation to position media as a priority.

• Enhance Playback & Delivery: take ownership of critical success metrics related to Quality of Services (QoS), such as Time to First Frame (TTFF), stall/rebuffer rates, and exits before video screen (EBVS). You will chart the course to guarantee dependable streaming for all users globally.

• Oversee Global Distribution: collaborate closely with our infrastructure teams to determine how to scale media through Content Delivery Networks (CDNs), edge computing, and caching strategies.

• Standardize Formats: you will lead the effort to standardize our stack, encompassing streaming protocols (HLS, MPEG-DASH) and container formats (CMAF, MP4).

• Foster a culture of innovation and experimentation, encouraging team members to explore, test, and refine new ideas, while balancing platform scalability with product velocity.

• Define a clear technical vision and direction for our media systems, while remaining at the forefront of emerging technologies.

• Navigate uncertainty with assurance, employing data-driven insights to steer the team towards successful outcomes.

• Collaborate closely with Product, Data, and ML teams to ensure effective leadership, alignment with broader organizational goals, and maximum impact.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related quantitative discipline.

• Over 8 years of industry experience, including more than 3 years in engineering management, specifically leading complex, high-volume consumer systems. Experience managing cross-platform teams (Backend and Mobile/Client) is highly desirable.

• Proficient in at least one programming language (Java, Go, Python).

• Strong understanding of video streaming technologies, CDN routing, and media ingestion. Familiarity with multi-part uploads, encoding schedulers, and adaptive bitrate streaming is essential.

• Demonstrated ability to balance immediate performance enhancements (e.g., MP4 playback optimizations) with long-term architectural improvements (e.g., media delivery at the edge, caching strategies).

• Experience in defining and governing clear Service Level Objectives and Indicators (SLOs, SLIs) to inform media investment strategies.

• Proven capacity to brainstorm and implement experimental ideas that promote growth.

• Exceptional leadership, team management, communication, and collaboration abilities.

• Experience managing media creation tools, such as video or image editing software, composers, or interfaces for creators.
