
Engineering Manager – Gitlab Delivery

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.
• Lead a geographically diverse engineering team, fostering an environment that empowers team members to excel and develop in a fully remote, asynchronous context.
• Recruit, onboard, and nurture team members who resonate with GitLab’s principles and enhance an outcome-driven engineering organization.
• Oversee and refine agile, asynchronous processes to enable the team to deliver deployment tools and services in a reliable and iterative manner.
• Collaborate with Product Management and engineering colleagues across Infrastructure Platforms to ensure team objectives align with customer requirements and business objectives.
• Take ownership of the reliability, upgrade experience, and operational ease of GitLab deployments spanning self-managed environments, GitLab.com, and GitLab Dedicated.
• Enhance deployment methodologies, observability, zero-downtime capabilities, and upgrade orchestration for customers utilizing GitLab on their own infrastructure.
• Utilize technical expertise in areas like Kubernetes Operators, Helm charts, and stateful application deployment to guide decisions and help the team overcome obstacles.
• Engage in incident management and work alongside reliability and development teams to support the availability of GitLab.com.
• Proven experience leading deployment tools, platform engineering, or site reliability engineering teams that operate at significant scale.
• Strong technical expertise in Kubernetes Operators, Helm charts for stateful applications, and upgrade orchestration strategies.
• Knowledge of cloud-native deployment architectures, database lifecycle management, schema migrations, and strategies for zero-downtime upgrades.
• Experience supporting enterprise-scale or consumer-scale platforms, preferably in a product-oriented software setting.
• Ability to analyze complex deployment and operational challenges and articulate trade-offs clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Proven track record in building high-performing, distributed teams and assisting team members in an asynchronous, fully remote setup.
• Strong collaboration skills across various functions such as Infrastructure, Support, and Customer Success to enhance customer outcomes.
• Willingness to consider diverse backgrounds for the role, including transferable skills, formal computer science education, or equivalent hands-on experience, along with a passion for open source and developer tools.
