Engineering Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Australia.

📋 Description

• Product & Technical Leadership – Collaborate with Product and Design to define and monitor OKRs, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives. Effectively manage feature development while addressing technical debt and enhancing system health within a well-structured Agile framework. Promote the thoughtful integration of AI tools to deliver secure, high-quality engineering work at scale.

• Technical Oversight – Provide guidance on technical discovery, review design and architectural choices, and contribute to development as needed to facilitate the team's success.

• Team Development – Mentor engineers of varying experience levels through regular 1:1 meetings, career development plans, and structured feedback. Cultivate a culture of engagement, ownership, and technical excellence.

• Cross-functional Collaboration – Partner closely with Product and Design to ensure technical feasibility, uphold high-quality standards, and deliver impactful solutions.

• Engineering Standards & Best Practices – Assist in defining and implementing engineering standards across teams, ensuring consistency in quality, performance, and reliability.

• Operational Excellence – Track and maintain engineering health metrics (SLOs, error rates, cycle time, operational costs) to foster improvements in processes, system performance, and reliability.

• Incident Management & On-call Processes – Supervise incident response and post-mortems, ensuring effective resolution and long-term solutions for recurring issues.

• Continuous Improvement – Propel advancements in development workflows, testing methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and overall engineering efficiency.

⛳️ Requirements

• Engineering Leadership Experience – Demonstrated experience leading a team of engineers in a high-growth or complex product environment, emphasizing mentorship, team development, and cultivating a robust engineering culture.

• Scalability & System Design – Profound knowledge of designing, building, and maintaining scalable web applications, APIs, and distributed systems, preferably in a SaaS or cloud-based setting.

• Technical Expertise – Comprehensive understanding of contemporary backend and frontend technologies, system performance optimization, and architectural best practices for high-traffic applications.

• Balancing Business & Engineering Priorities – Capacity to make strategic trade-offs between feature development, technical debt, and operational enhancements, while articulating a clear, data-driven business rationale for decisions made.

• Cross-functional Collaboration – Experience working in close partnership with Product, Design, and other engineering teams to align on objectives, manage dependencies, and deliver high-quality outcomes.

• Operational Focus – Familiarity with monitoring, incident response, and maintaining service reliability at scale, including working with SLOs, observability platforms, and optimizing for cost efficiency.

• Process & Best Practices – Knowledge of modern software development workflows, including CI/CD, testing strategies, and iterative enhancement of engineering processes.

• Strong Communication & Influence – Ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• **Bonus Skills (Nice to Haves)**

• - Proficiency in React, Typescript, Python, and Postgres, or similar technologies, is advantageous.

• - Experience in a high-scale SaaS or cloud-based environment.

• - Hands-on experience with modern DevOps practices, including CI/CD and cloud infrastructure.

• - Familiarity with observability tools, monitoring, and error tracking.

• - Enthusiasm for fostering a strong engineering culture centered on ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
