Engineering Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Bulgaria.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of delivery outcomes — ensure that your cross-functional teams provide reliable systems and fulfill commitments by managing priorities and execution.

• Lead and cultivate talent — conduct performance evaluations, support career progression, and address performance issues as necessary.

• Uphold strong engineering principles — guarantee that teams adhere to established architectural patterns and quality benchmarks while navigating intricate technical trade-offs.

• Facilitate effective team execution — collaborate with Team Leads and Product Managers to ensure initiatives are well-defined and that teams can operate efficiently.

• Enhance engineering productivity — continuously improve how teams plan, coordinate, and execute their work as the organization evolves.

• Promote system reliability — assist teams in investigating incidents, identifying root causes, and enhancing platform reliability.

⛳️ Requirements

• Solid engineering foundation with substantial software development experience and extensive backend proficiency (Java ecosystem).

• Experience in system design, building, and managing high-load systems utilizing modern backend technologies, event-driven architectures, and cloud-native infrastructure.

• A proven history of leading engineering teams and delivering sophisticated production systems while balancing technical leadership with personnel management.

• Experience in operating production systems and engaging in incident response as well as post-incident improvement efforts.

• Strong product insight — the ability to evaluate product initiatives and recognize engineering implications, risks, and any missing components.

• Strong sense of delivery ownership with the capability to provide realistic estimates, align stakeholders, and communicate scope options and trade-offs clearly.

• Preferred: Experience in iGaming or similar high-load, real-time platforms.

• Experience transitioning from a senior individual contributor role (e.g., Tech Lead, Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, Solution Architect) into a leadership position.

• Familiarity with Java, Kafka, Kubernetes, or GCP.

• Experience in product-oriented companies or scale-ups.
