Engineering Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Spain.

📋 Description

• Conducting ongoing weekly one-on-one sessions, eliminating obstacles, and mentoring a team of engineers on both their technical skills and career advancement.

• Setting career development goals, defining leveling expectations, and delivering ongoing, precise feedback for each engineer on the team.

• Regularly assessing code, design documents, tests, and CI/CD modifications to enhance quality, simplicity, delivery speed, observability, and long-term maintainability.

• Supporting the team in challenging situations: collaborating on complex problems, engaging in incidents, troubleshooting production issues, writing code, and assisting engineers in using AI tools responsibly to enhance quality or efficiency.

• Leading architectural, tooling, and technical roadmap decisions that positively impact business results, delivery speed, reliability, and operational effectiveness.

• Working alongside product, design, and customer-facing teams to link technical initiatives to revenue, customer retention, experience, and operational efficiency.

• Planning, managing, and distributing engineering resources in alignment with quarterly OKRs, utilizing business impact, operational risk, and your understanding of the system to inform trade-offs.

• Advocating for and enhancing Beyond’s engineering methodologies such as trunk-based development, CI/CD, risk-based testing, feature flags, observability, pair programming, code reviews, and collective code ownership.

• Contributing to new products and projects while also supporting and maintaining the existing codebase as required.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of hands-on software engineering experience in delivering and operating products in a production environment.

• More than 5 years of engineering management experience in a startup or distributed setting, including the hiring, development, and retention of engineers with 8 to 10 direct reports.

• Proficient in reading, reviewing, and writing code within your team’s technology stack, and willing to continue doing so in a managerial capacity.

• At ease with utilizing AI-assisted engineering tools as a force multiplier while maintaining strong engineering judgment, security, and code quality for both engineers and coding agents.

• Proven track record of enhancing team performance through CI/CD, risk-based testing, observability, execution planning, tracking, and data-driven reporting.

• Proficient in English.
