Engineering Manager – AI Media Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Belgium.

📋 Description

• Oversee the platform that powers AI-generated images, videos, audio, and more throughout Canva.

• Develop the essential services that drive generative media within Canva.

• Lead model integration, vendor orchestration, and inference infrastructure to facilitate the swift and reliable onboarding of new AI capabilities.

• Enhance cost efficiency, latency, and performance across multi-modal AI systems (including image, video, and 3D).

• Collaborate closely with Applied ML, product, and platform teams to provide scalable, impactful AI solutions.

• Mentor and cultivate engineers, creating a high-performing team with robust expertise in platform and ML infrastructure.

• Establish the technical vision and engineering strategy for the AI Media Platform as Canva expands its AI capabilities.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in leading engineers while remaining engaged in technical decision-making within complex systems.

• Previous involvement with scalable backend platforms, preferably those supporting ML products, inference systems, or vendor integrations.

• Solid understanding of distributed systems, system design, and performance optimization.

• Ability to navigate uncertainty and balance innovation with timely delivery in dynamic environments.

• Excellent communication skills to connect technical decisions with business outcomes and influence across teams.
