
Engineering Leader – Platform Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +4 more states.
• Take ownership of the company's overarching objectives and the engineering plan that facilitates their achievement.
• Convert company priorities and product-engineering requirements into a cohesive platform roadmap that effectively communicates both upward and downward.
• Be accountable for build-vs-buy decisions and architectural trade-offs related to infrastructure, data, developer experience, and AI tooling; manage the technical roadmap while ensuring it aligns with customer needs.
• Represent the Platform and work collaboratively with cross-functional leadership partners as well as participate in engineering-wide leadership discussions.
• Mentor Engineering Managers by providing clear feedback, development plans, and direct support to elevate their performance.
• Propel AI-native development in accordance with ClassDojo’s engineering standards.
• Assume responsibility for SLAs/SLOs and incident response across the platform landscape.
• Facilitate and influence architecture and systems design choices across infrastructure, data, DevEx, and AI tooling; ensure systems are dependable, maintainable, and operationally prepared.
• Collaborate with Security, Operations, Data, and other relevant functions as required by the platform.
• A minimum of 2 years of experience managing managers, with direct reports who themselves have been in managerial roles.
• Over 10 years of experience in technical positions, with a significant period as an individual contributor that you can still reference.
• Have led a platform, infrastructure, data, or developer-productivity domain and achieved measurable results (throughput, reliability, cost, or operational safety).
• Have developed or advanced platform engineering practices across multiple teams, gaining widespread adoption.
• Have recruited, nurtured, and overseen engineering managers.
• Be adept at making and justifying build-vs-buy decisions and architectural trade-offs across the platform; capable of reasoning about code with discernment.
• Champion Candor over Harmony: deliver difficult messages early and be comfortable with disagreement.
• Utilize LLM-based tools on a daily basis and encourage your teams to embrace them.
• Possess exceptional written communication skills; able to clearly articulate strategy and trade-offs in writing.
