Engineer Manager – Network Solutions

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of architecture design, delivery, and the roadmap for a specific engineering team.

• Establish the Product partnership, define the roadmap, commit to it, and ensure its execution.

• Be responsible for engineering outcomes within Network Solutions' physical and virtual networking product areas, which include load balancing, switching, firewalls, VPN, and VPC.

• Develop a comprehensive understanding of customer needs, system architecture, dependencies, integrations, and operational risks.

• Ensure the long-term sustainability and advancement of the products under your management.

• Create specifications, evaluate pull requests, and implement meaningful changes.

• Promote the daily use of AI harness, agentic tooling, specification-first methodologies, automated pull request reviews, and reusable skills.

• Define the scope and estimates for roadmap tasks, identify uncertainties, manage a monthly cycle with a clear cut line, and provide honest status updates.

• Resolve cross-team engineering dependencies proactively to prevent delivery blockages.

• Enhance engineering performance toward achieving DORA High and beyond by addressing review latency, build times, environments, handoffs, and approval processes.

• Mandate testing with every change, enforce coverage gating on modified code, and require evidence in pull requests.

• Make informed go/no-go release decisions based on collected evidence.

• Conduct one-on-one meetings, maintain growth plans, and offer direct feedback to team members.

• Manage the entire hiring process and uphold hiring standards.

• Participate in the on-call rotation.

• Ensure that incidents are documented with follow-up actions completed on time, eliminate toil, and prevent any single points of failure.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 7 years in software engineering, including at least one year in a formal or informal leadership role.

• Proficiency in Perl, PHP, React, and Vue.

• Experience with relational databases, particularly Postgres and MariaDB.

• Familiarity with configuring firewalls and load balancers.

• Knowledge of VPN, HAProxy, nginx, switching and VLANs, as well as configuration management.

• Currently hands-on and able to read diffs and assess pull requests for AI-generated code.

• Proven experience in AI-assisted engineering with measurable results.

• Demonstrated ability to make a team significantly more efficient.

• Understanding of DORA metrics or similar benchmarks, including the ability to identify and improve bottlenecks.

• Experience in delivering and modernizing software on schedule, including collaborative scoping and data-driven forecasting.

• Experience managing a production on-call rotation.

• Proven track record in owning the hiring process from start to finish and maintaining hiring standards.

• Experience in leading engineers across multiple time zones.

• Required experience in managed hosting, cloud, or other high-availability service sectors.

• Capacity to work in a traditional climate-controlled office environment or remotely.

• Ability to work at a desk and in front of a computer screen for prolonged periods.

• Capability to thrive in a high-pressure environment with diverse challenges and deadlines.
