Energy Markets Consultant – Senior Energy Markets Consultant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado, +3 more states.

📋 Description

• Conduct quantitative, economic, and technical assessments of U.S. power markets utilizing commercial market models, proprietary tools, and extensive datasets.

• Create long-term projections for energy, capacity, ancillary services, and outcomes in the renewable energy market.

• Assess investments in renewable energy, battery storage, conventional generation, transmission, and emerging energy technologies.

• Analyze market fundamentals such as load growth, fuel prices, transmission congestion, generation retirements, policy shifts, and new resource additions.

• Assist with interconnection and transmission evaluations, including reviews of queue activity, network upgrade costs, congestion effects, and project economics.

• Support asset valuations, project financing analyses, acquisition due diligence, and M&A advisory services.

• Work collaboratively with team members to improve ICF's proprietary forecasting methodologies, databases, and analytical instruments.

• Create client presentations, technical documents, and market insights that clearly convey complex findings to varied audiences.

• Contribute to business development efforts through market research, proposal writing, participation in conferences, and thought leadership initiatives.


⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Engineering, Economics, Finance, Operations Research, Mathematics, Energy Systems, Statistics, or a comparable quantitative discipline.

• A Bachelor’s degree plus 2 to 4+ years of experience in energy markets, power systems, energy economics, market analysis, consulting, trading, utility planning, or a related area.

• A Master’s degree plus 1 to 3+ years of experience in energy markets, power systems, energy economics, market analysis, consulting, trading, utility planning, or a related area.

• Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Proficiency in Excel and quantitative analysis tools.

• Experience with programming languages such as Python, R, SQL, or other similar platforms.

• Familiarity with power market simulation and forecasting tools, including PROMOD®, PLEXOS®, Aurora®, PSLF®, or equivalent systems.
