This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of and manage employment templates, policies, and processes across various jurisdictions, ensuring that Oyster's employment offerings remain compliant, scalable, and operationally effective.

• Stay updated on global legislative and regulatory changes, evaluate their implications on Oyster's products and operations, and lead the implementation of necessary modifications.

• Collaborate closely with Product, People teams, and other cross-functional stakeholders to design and execute compliant employment solutions that balance legal stipulations with business goals.

• Provide guidance on a wide array of employment law and compliance issues throughout the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, compensation, leave, performance management, and terminations.

• Assist in strategic initiatives such as Direct Expansion, transitioning from indirect to direct employment, and the introduction of new employment products and features.

• Investigate intricate employment law issues and convert legal analysis into clear, practical, and business-oriented recommendations.

• Create and sustain employment guides, knowledge resources, and compliance documentation to support scalable operations across Oyster's global presence.

• Aid in labor inspections, audits, regulatory inquiries, and other employment compliance initiatives.

• Leverage data, stakeholder feedback, and operational insights to pinpoint risks, enhance processes, and boost the efficiency of Oyster's employment compliance framework.

• Recognize and advocate for opportunities to utilize AI, automation, and process innovation to enhance team efficiency, reduce manual tasks, and facilitate the scalable delivery of employment compliance and legal support.

• Contribute to a highly collaborative, remote-first team culture and promote continuous improvement across Employment Products.


⛳️ Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree and licensed to practice law in one or more jurisdictions.

• At least 4 years of experience in employment law practice, ideally with a mix of law firm and in-house experience.

• Profound knowledge of employment law, including hands-on experience with standard employment processes such as drafting and reviewing contracts, managing templates and policies, providing advice on various employment matters, and interpreting local labor regulations across multiple jurisdictions.

• Familiarity with the Employer of Record (EOR) model and the ability to foresee and navigate its distinct legal challenges; previous experience with or within an EOR is advantageous.

• Experience in managing multi-jurisdictional and/or cross-border employment issues, with the capability to operate across varied legal systems and regulatory frameworks.

• Strong business insight with the ability to simplify complex legal concepts into clear, practical, and actionable advice for non-legal stakeholders; creativity and pragmatism in risk management are crucial.

• Exceptional analytical, communication, and research abilities, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, global setting.

• A technology-oriented mindset, including curiosity and comfort in utilizing AI and automation tools to enhance efficiency and continuously refine legal processes.

• A positive demeanor and readiness to assist colleagues, regardless of the task size.
