Effects Artist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Bring a robust sense of personal ownership and artistic direction to visuals, while aligning with the artistic vision of the Director and Production Designer.

• Ability to produce a wide range of visuals, from photorealistic to entirely imaginative.

• Collaborate with various artistic departments to achieve the desired aesthetic for effects elements.

• Maintain regular communication with the production team to set and meet expectations and deadlines.

• Develop innovative tools and workflows that are essential for achieving both technical and visual objectives.

• Create effects with an understanding of how they will be perceived and utilized by other departments, focusing on data efficiency and usability.

• Engage in team discussions and critiques to provide feedback on visuals or technical solutions, aiming to enhance artistry and efficiency.

• Partner with Effects department leadership to establish and uphold artistic and technical objectives for projects and/or teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.

• Experience in CG visual effects production for animation, live-action film, television, or games.

• Proficient in SideFX’s Houdini.

• Comfortable with, or eager to learn, various effects animation techniques including procedural animation, keyframing, and simulations such as rigid bodies, soft bodies, fluids, and particle dynamics.

• Willing to accept technical and artistic direction, as well as to receive and act upon notes and feedback from peers and leadership.

• Detail-oriented and focused on quality in work.

• Strong intrinsic motivation to enhance technical and artistic skills while embracing a studio culture that seeks innovation and change.

• Ability to clearly articulate artistic and technical concepts, challenges, and processes.

• Solid understanding of animation and filmmaking fundamentals, such as timing, silhouette, appeal, light, color, and composition.

• Familiarity with Linux and Python scripting is advantageous.
