Editorial Data Reporting Intern

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Conduct research and produce at least one original, data-driven enterprise story for publication during the internship.

• Examine data to uncover trends, patterns, and insights that will aid ongoing editorial initiatives.

• Assist in the collection, cleaning, and interpretation of data from various sources, including public records.

• Work alongside reporters and editors to incorporate data into news and feature articles, and help refine story concepts.

• Aid in the development of data visualizations for articles and special projects.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must be a recent graduate holding a bachelor’s or master’s degree in data journalism, communications, or a related discipline.

• Proven experience in utilizing and integrating data into news or feature articles (through academics, internships, or personal projects).

• Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data from a variety of sources, including public records.

• Familiarity with cleaning and organizing complex or disorganized datasets.

• Proficient in data analysis tools such as Excel, SQL, Python, and/or R.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, showcasing strong narrative and visual storytelling capabilities.

• Comfortable working autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team environment.

• Strong teamwork skills and the capacity to work effectively with editors and reporters.
