This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.
• Conduct research, summarize, rewrite, and refine submitted Class Notes to enhance clarity, tone, privacy, and fit within available space.
• Confirm names, titles, graduation years, employers, publications, awards, dates, and links; address discrepancies and document sources.
• Identify unsupported claims, privacy concerns, or issues regarding permissions.
• Engage with alumni, colleagues from University Marketing & Communications, and partners in Advancement and Alumni Relations.
• Proofread features, departments, display text, captions, sidebars, contents, credits, and select digital adaptations for Rochester Review.
• Assess page layouts for headlines, decks, bylines, captions, photo identifications, folios, jumps, line breaks, credits, URLs, QR codes, charts, and corrections.
• Recheck revised pages during the final production phase.
• Copy edit and proofread assigned enrollment marketing and select brand marketing materials.
• Collaborate with editors, writers, designers, project managers, and University partners.
• Address queries and corrections, update issue style sheets, adhere to deadlines, and suggest improvements to workflow efficiency.
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, English, publishing, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in editing, copy editing, or proofreading is required.
• A comparable combination of education and experience will be considered.
• Prior experience in editing websites and digital projects is preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat is essential.
• Advanced knowledge of grammar, usage, punctuation, copy editing, and proofreading is preferred.
• Strong research and fact-checking abilities are preferred.
• Capability to handle high-volume tasks, tight deadlines, changing priorities, and sensitive information is preferred.
• Good editorial judgment and effective communication skills are preferred.
• Familiarity with Chicago style, University or magazine house style, publication production workflows, digital publishing, and accessibility practices is preferred.
