This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado.
• Take ownership of precise and timely monthly and year-end financial closes for a portfolio of schools, ensuring full P&L and balance sheet accountability at each site.
• Manage the recognition of tuition and enrollment-based revenue, including aspects like deferred revenue, seasonal enrollment fluctuations, and processing of refunds or withdrawals.
• Supervise and cultivate a remote accounting team while overseeing an outsourced relationship.
• Review and authorize financial statements and reconciliations at the school level for consolidation purposes.
• Identify and address complex technical accounting challenges and document the resulting conclusions.
• Design, execute, and monitor internal controls within the assigned schools.
• Lead activities for audit preparation and act as the primary liaison for external auditors.
• Standardize accounting policies, procedures, and documentation practices.
• Ensure comprehensive capture and reconciliation of revenue processed via third-party platforms.
• Guide the onboarding process for newly acquired schools into NetSuite, billing, enrollment, and associated systems.
• Drive system migrations and process re-engineering initiatives from initial scoping to go-live.
• Develop scalable reporting templates and establish chart-of-accounts standards.
• Create and maintain the Finance & Accounting integration playbook.
• Mentor and develop accounting team members across various business units.
• Collaborate with FP&A, HR, and Operations to ensure alignment in accounting and reporting practices.
• Represent the accounting function to school leadership regarding trends in enrollment, tuition collection, and profitability.
• Provide strategic advice to the Corporate Controller concerning risks and potential areas for improvement.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA designation is highly preferred.
• A minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience.
• At least 3 years in a controller or senior leadership position.
• Experience managing accounting functions across multi-entity, multi-state environments.
• Background in school, education, membership, or subscription-based business is a significant advantage.
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP, including the ability to conduct technical research and apply it to non-standard transactions.
• Comprehensive understanding of revenue recognition, tuition, program fees, and deferred revenue.
• Advanced experience with NetSuite or similar ERP systems.
• Proven experience leading system implementation or migration projects.
• Familiarity with student billing or enrollment management systems is beneficial.
• Previous experience in M&A integration and purchase accounting is advantageous.
• A track record of mentoring and developing accounting personnel and junior leaders.
• Ability to work independently in a fully remote, fast-growing environment.
