This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Evaluate short-term disability claims to determine eligibility for benefits and make decisions in line with service standards.
• Conduct telephone interviews aimed at gathering essential medical information, treatment status, functional capabilities, and readiness for return to work.
• Recognize and assess both medical and non-medical obstacles, as well as functional abilities, to enhance outcomes.
• Create, communicate, and execute proactive case management strategies.
• Collaborate, negotiate, and formulate return-to-work strategies.
• Identify appropriate rehabilitation referrals in accordance with employer disability and absence policies and associated costs.
• Leverage both external and internal resources to advance cases towards resolution, concentrating on functionality and gainful employment.
• Work alongside healthcare providers and physicians, using written or verbal communication based on the specific requirements of the claim.
• Oversee external referrals, services, and partnerships with service providers and strategic collaborators through research and awareness of local community resources.
• Exhibit a thorough understanding of employer-specific resources (i.e., EFAP) and ensure effective coordination.
• Act as a knowledgeable claims management resource for clients and internal business units.
• Maintain professional interactions with all stakeholders consistently, ensuring timely and efficient responses to phone and email communications.
• Provide prompt and thorough documentation to facilitate the advancement and fulfillment of case management plans.
• Relevant post-secondary degree (e.g., Kinesiology, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field) or equivalent experience.
• Strong foundation and understanding of STD policies and coverage; familiarity with LTD and Group plans is advantageous.
• Excellent analytical skills, problem-solving capabilities, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Professional communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to tailor communication styles to suit a variety of stakeholder and client requirements.
• Experience and knowledge of vocational rehabilitation services.
• Diligent, resourceful, and self-driven, with a positive approach to overcoming challenges.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask effectively.
• Capability to manage conflicting agendas while maintaining an impartial demeanor.
• Proficient interview skills with a talent for identifying and revealing underlying interests and motivations.
• Ability to manage the expectations of various stakeholders (employees, employers, lawyers, doctors, unions, etc.) as needed.
• Adaptability to rapidly changing situations and new working methods, with excellent time management skills to meet tight deadlines.
• Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
