📋 Description

• Contribute to the development and support of the technical vision for Software Engineering within the practice, collaborating with Principal Architects and senior technical leaders.

• Create and refine reference architectures, engineering standards, and evaluation frameworks for contemporary application development on Azure (e.g., API-first, microservices, event-driven, cloud-native patterns).

• Provide high-level architectural guidance on significant engagements, ensuring that technical decisions align with the direction of the practice, security and compliance requirements, and long-term maintainability.

• Identify deficiencies in engineering and architecture capabilities (e.g., performance, reliability, observability, DevOps, AI-assisted development) and spearhead the development of training, reusable assets, and accelerators to address them.

• Advocate for the thoughtful implementation of modern engineering methodologies, tools, and patterns (including AI-assisted development) that enhance quality, speed, and reliability while ensuring accountability and security.

• Oversee critical client engagements to guarantee quality, alignment with business goals, and a clear connection between our work and client outcomes.

• Assist delivery teams by providing escalation guidance, architectural coaching, and strategic clarity when projects or relationships become complicated or high-risk.

• Collaborate with Engagement Managers, Architects, and client stakeholders to ensure predictable, high-quality results on large programs and essential workstreams.

• Engage in select executive-level discussions to validate technical direction, shape roadmaps, and mitigate risks where Director-level presence enhances alignment and confidence.

• Support clients in evolving their engineering and delivery practices (e.g., standards, governance, DevOps, Agile methodologies) to ensure improvements last beyond a single project.

• Set expectations and guidelines for delivery quality, engineering practices, and operational methodologies across the Software Engineering practice.

• Monitor engagement performance, risk, and client satisfaction across your portfolio; proactively intervene when trends or signals indicate delivery or relationship risks.

• Ensure consistency and quality across teams without directly managing program-level roadmaps, instead empowering and coaching managers, tech leads, and architects.

• Collaborate with Engagement Managers and Practice Operations to oversee utilization, margin, and staffing mix to support both financial objectives and sustainable team health.

• Promote operational readiness and supportability across engagements, including the appropriate use of CI/CD, testing strategies, observability, and incident response practices.

• Develop and mentor managers, Principal Architects, and senior engineers through regular coaching, clear expectations, and constructive feedback.

• Foster connected, inclusive, high-performing teams that embody a culture of trust, collaboration, and accountability, exemplifying the behaviors expected from leaders.

• Assess team health, morale, and workload balance across multiple teams, addressing engagement or performance issues proactively in partnership with the People Team and Practice leadership.

• Oversee staffing and resource alignment for your area, balancing utilization targets with growth opportunities, development goals, and succession planning.

• Establish interview standards and mentorship strategies for Software Engineering, training others to apply them consistently and enhance hiring outcomes and talent growth at scale.

• Drive the development of practice-wide training, reusable assets, tools, templates, and accelerators that enhance delivery quality, speed, and consistency across Software Engineering engagements.

• Collaborate with Directors, Principal Architects, and Practice Leaders across App Innovation, Data & AI, and Advisory to ensure our solutions and offerings are cohesive and aligned with 3Cloud’s overarching strategy.

• Guide internal knowledge-sharing communities, brown bags, and upskilling initiatives to enable engineers and architects to swiftly adopt new patterns, tools, and methodologies.

• Support the GTM team by collaboratively leading the creation of Software Engineering offerings, estimation playbooks, and proposal templates that align with market needs and enhance proposal quality, win rates, and margin confidence.

• Assist the GTM team as a Subject Matter Expert and/or pursuit lead for Software Engineering solution pursuits, encompassing complex modernization and greenfield application initiatives.

• Contribute to practice evolution by identifying capability gaps, talent requirements, and strategic opportunities (e.g., new solution areas, partnerships, or accelerators).

• Influence multi-million-dollar annual sales and delivery outcomes for a portfolio of Software Engineering work, ensuring both client value and strong business performance.

• Extensive experience effectively leading hybrid and distributed teams, ensuring alignment, quality, and predictable delivery across time zones.

• Background in a consulting or professional services environment.

• Proven success in leading large, complex client engagements or programs, encompassing responsibility for delivery quality, client satisfaction, and financial performance.

• Strong foundation in modern software engineering and architecture practices on Azure (or a major cloud platform), including familiarity with PaaS, serverless, integration patterns, and DevOps practices.

• Established ability to act as a trusted advisor to senior client stakeholders (e.g., CTO, VP Engineering, Product leaders), influencing priorities and guiding strategic technical decisions.

• Experience in shaping and implementing practice-wide standards, assets, or offerings that enhance repeatability, quality, and time-to-value.

• Demonstrated strength in people leadership, including mentoring managers and senior technical leaders, building healthy teams, and constructively addressing performance and engagement challenges.

• Strong business acumen with experience in partnership on utilization, margin, staffing, and sales pursuits.

• Excellent communication and storytelling abilities, with the capacity to clarify complex technical and delivery topics for executive and non-technical audiences.

• Proven ability to lead system-level architecture, make impactful technical decisions, and balance competing concerns (value, cost, risk, speed) in collaboration with business and product stakeholders.

• Experience in leading or influencing multi-team programs, including dependency management, integration planning, and architecture governance.

• Enthusiasm for continuous learning and the adoption of new technologies in the cloud domain.
