Director, SOC Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Missouri.

📋 Description

• Direct the strategy, roadmap, and progression of SOC Engineering services, encompassing SIEM, SOAR, EDR/XDR, telemetry pipelines, observability, and automation platforms.

• Oversee the administration, reliability, lifecycle management, and ongoing enhancement of enterprise security monitoring and telemetry platforms across cloud, on-premises, and hybrid settings.

• Ensure that platform and service performance aligns with objectives for availability, resiliency, scalability, security, and operational support.

• Provide both strategic and tactical leadership for platform engineering, telemetry services, observability, automation, and detection platform capabilities.

• Establish engineering standards, operational processes, and service management practices.

• Propel platform modernization, optimization, and automation initiatives.

• Develop and manage technology roadmaps, budgets, vendor partnerships, licensing strategies, and investment priorities.

• Collaborate with Security Operations and enterprise technology teams to integrate monitoring, telemetry, and observability capabilities.

• Set service metrics, operational health measures, and performance indicators.

• Build, nurture, and retain a high-performing engineering organization through workforce planning, talent development, and succession planning.

• Provide engineering leadership during major incidents, resiliency exercises, audits, and strategic initiatives.

• Drive long-term corrective actions and improvements to the platform.

• Execute additional responsibilities as assigned.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) or equivalent experience – Required.

• A minimum of 10 years of experience in IT infrastructure engineering, cybersecurity engineering, platform engineering, or a related field is required.

• Extensive experience in supporting security monitoring, telemetry, detection engineering, or security platform operations.

• At least 2 years of IT management experience – Required.

• Proven experience in creating and executing technology roadmaps, operational maturity programs, and large-scale platform modernization efforts.

• Highly advanced people management skills, including leading, mentoring, developing, and retaining high-performing engineering teams.

• Strong comprehension of security operations, threat detection, incident response, platform reliability, service management, and operational support models.

• Technical proficiency with SIEM, telemetry, XDR/EDR, SOAR, cloud-native logging technologies, and associated telemetry ecosystems – Required.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to articulate technical concepts in business language.

• Capacity to work effectively in a collaborative leadership environment while managing multiple priorities, services, and strategic initiatives.

• Advanced skills in customer relationship management, stakeholder engagement, organizational leadership, and change management.

• A Master's Degree, MBA, or relevant advanced technical or leadership certification – Preferred.

• Over 5 years of progressive experience in leading, designing, delivering, and operating complex cybersecurity, infrastructure, platform engineering, or enterprise technology functions – Preferred.

• Advanced understanding of cloud technologies, enterprise infrastructure, identity services, APIs, automation technologies, and modern security architectures – Preferred.

• Advanced project management skills – Preferred.

• Experience in managing vendor relationships, technology evaluations, contract negotiations, licensing strategies, and strategic platform investments – Preferred.

• Knowledge of the insurance or financial services industry – Preferred.
