This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Take ownership of the complete fund accounting process for a portfolio of real estate private credit clients, including the calculation of NAV, preparation of financial statements, processing of capital activities (calls, distributions, recallable capital), and calculations of fees/carry.
• Supervise the accounting for underlying credit positions — including interest income accruals, OID/PIK treatment, origination fees, prepayments, and loan modifications — ensuring precision and uniformity across client portfolios.
• Review and authorize complex waterfall calculations, preferred return thresholds, catch-up mechanics, and LP/GP allocations across various fund structures of differing complexities.
• Manage the creation and review of quarterly and annual financial statements (GAAP/IFRS as applicable), investor capital statements, and management reporting packages provided to clients and their LPs.
• Serve as the main operational leader for annual audits and tax processes — collaborating with external auditors, tax advisors, and client finance teams to guarantee a smooth and timely completion.
• Act as a senior liaison for client CFOs, controllers, and finance teams; handle escalations professionally, establish and uphold service expectations, and proactively address issues before they escalate.
• Lead and mentor a team of fund accounting professionals at various levels (managers, associates, senior associates); manage hiring, performance evaluation, workload distribution, and career progression within your team.
• Drive ongoing enhancements across workflows, controls, and documentation; collaborate with internal technology and product teams to optimize how Juniper Square's platform meets real estate credit accounting requirements.
• Work cross-functionally with Investor Services, Compliance, Legal, and Product teams to ensure a seamless client experience and contribute to the development of Juniper Square's real estate credit service offerings.
• 10-12+ years of experience in fund accounting, fund administration, or finance roles with substantial exposure to real estate private credit, commercial real estate debt, or structured credit.
• Extensive working knowledge of credit fund structures — including debt funds, CLOs, bridge vehicles, or mezzanine funds — and the accounting treatment related to loan portfolios.
• Over 5 years of experience in managing and developing teams; proven ability to attract and retain talent in a high-growth setting.
• Strong technical accounting expertise (GAAP); knowledge of ASC 946, fair value measurement, and interest income recognition for debt instruments.
• Demonstrated history of managing client relationships at a senior level — comfortable engaging with client CFOs, controllers, and IR teams.
• Experience in owning or overseeing audit and tax processes for investment funds.
• Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
• Ability to thrive in ambiguous situations within a high-growth environment.
• Enthusiasm for technology and a desire to leverage it to enhance business operations and improve client experiences.
• Exceptional client service, along with strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience with a third-party fund administrator is advantageous (e.g., Citco, SS&C, Alter Domus, Apex, NAV Consulting).
• Background in CRE debt, CMBS, or commercial mortgage servicing environments is a plus.
• CPA license or equivalent professional certification is preferred.
