Director of Software Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Belgium.

📋 Description

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 10 full-stack developers focused on Node.js services and Salesforce customizations.

• Drive quantifiable enhancements in developer productivity utilizing DORA metrics: lead time, deployment frequency, change failure rate, and MTTR.

• Streamline delivery timelines by segmenting epics into smaller, independently deployable units and challenging inflated estimates with data-driven insights.

• Design comprehensive solutions that encompass Node.js microservices, APIs, event-driven architectures, and Salesforce (Apex, Lightning, integrations).

• Take ownership of solution performance, including latency, throughput, scalability, and cost—establish SLOs and ensure team accountability.

• Implement estimation, sprint, and release processes; eliminate obstacles; promote accountability while preventing team burnout.

• Collaborate with Product, QA, and Infrastructure teams to synchronize the roadmap, capacity, and dependencies.

• Recruit, onboard, and evaluate engineers; foster a culture of ownership and agility.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of experience in software engineering, including more than 5 years leading development teams of 8–20 engineers.

• In-depth, up-to-date hands-on expertise in **Node.js** (Express/Nest, asynchronous patterns, performance optimization, microservices).

• Familiarity with the **Salesforce** platform—Apex, Lightning Web Components, Flows, REST/Platform Events, and Node.js↔Salesforce integration methodologies.

• Demonstrated experience as a **technical architect**: designing distributed systems, API contracts, data models, and performance-sensitive solutions in production environments.

• Proven history of **schedule compression**—case studies illustrating measurable reductions in cycle time or earlier release dates without compromising quality.

• Strong skills in estimation and planning within Agile/Scrum or Kanban frameworks.

• Experience in enhancing **solution performance**: profiling, caching, query optimization, horizontal scaling, and observability (APM, logs, traces).

• Experience with cloud-native delivery (AWS preferred) including CI/CD, IaC, and contemporary DevOps methodologies.

• Exceptional communication skills with stakeholders—capable of negotiating scope, time, and quality with executive leadership.
