Director of Revenue Accounting

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Act as the main technical authority for all ASC 606 issues — implementing the five-step model across both fixed (subscription-based) and variable revenue streams, conducting SSP analyses, ensuring correct classification of contract assets and liabilities, and composing technical memos and positions.

• Collaborate with Legal, Sales, and FP&A on new deal structures, contract changes, and product launches to evaluate accounting ramifications prior to execution; provide guidance on and implement revenue recognition treatment from initial evaluation through NetSuite configuration.

• Supervise the complete billing process — guaranteeing the billing team produces timely and accurate invoices in line with contract terms, managing the data flow from Salesforce to NetSuite, enforcing billing controls, and addressing disputes and credit memos in conjunction with Sales and Customer Success.

• Oversee the collections function, including A/R aging management, dunning communications, and escalation procedures; track DSO, aging buckets, and bad debt exposure; manage the CECL reserve analysis under ASC 326 in collaboration with the Controller.

• Take ownership of the monthly revenue close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, customer-level deferred revenue rollforwards, and month-over-month variance analysis; assist FP&A with revenue inputs for forecasting and investor reporting as necessary.

• Ensure year-round audit-ready documentation for all revenue accounts; manage relationships with external auditors regarding all revenue-related and order-to-cash issues; coordinate PBC schedules and respond to technical inquiries.

• Act as the functional owner of NetSuite revenue modules — overseeing revenue arrangements, recognition rules, and SSP allocations; manage integrations with Salesforce and billing/collections platforms.

• Identify and spearhead initiatives to automate manual accounting workflows within Revenue — not merely to improve them incrementally, but to fundamentally redesign them for scalability.

• Directly supervise a team of revenue accounting, billing, and collections professionals; foster a culture of accountability, precision, and ongoing improvement; invest in the professional growth of direct reports.

⛳️ Requirements

• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience with an emphasis on revenue accounting; Big 4 experience preferred, or a strong combination of public and industry experience.

• CPA is strongly preferred.

• Extensive technical knowledge of ASC 606 — encompassing multi-element arrangements, variable consideration, SSP allocation, contract assets and liabilities, and usage-based revenue models — as well as ASC 326 (CECL).

• Experience in overseeing or managing billing operations, accounts receivable, and collections functions.

• Proficient in Salesforce or a similar CRM and its integration with NetSuite.

• Demonstrated ability to manage and develop a team.

• A builder's mindset and genuine curiosity about how AI and emerging technologies can transform revenue operations.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly present complex revenue positions to auditors, legal teams, and senior leadership.
