Director of Freight and Logistics

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Assist in establishing, implementing, and conveying the strategic direction of HALO’s freight and logistics operations in collaboration with Operations leadership.

• Take the lead on the comprehensive execution of domestic and international freight operations, ensuring that shipments are planned, routed, and delivered according to business and client requirements.

• Manage relationships with carriers, brokers, and third-party logistics providers to ensure dependable service, scalable capacity, and competitive freight solutions.

• Optimize, manage, and oversee freight processes, which include shipment coordination, transport charges, customs and duties, tracking, and delivery follow-up.

• Collaborate with Billing, Finance, Product and Technology, and Commercial teams to enhance freight pricing transparency and minimize unexpected billing issues.

• Define, refine, and communicate freight best practices and documentation standards to enhance order accuracy, invoicing quality, and customer experience.

• Assess team productivity and success through objective key performance indicators related to service, cost, accuracy, and timeliness.

• Supervise the workflow and performance of the freight and logistics team, including both direct and indirect reports, providing coaching, feedback, and development support.

• Utilize data and feedback from both internal and external stakeholders to continuously innovate and enhance freight operations.

• Remain informed about industry trends, carrier markets, and best practices in transportation, logistics, and distribution.

• Act as the escalation leader for complicated freight issues, service disruptions, and cross-functional resolution requirements.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, logistics, business, operations, or a related field is required.

• Over 8 years of progressive experience in freight, transportation, logistics, supply chain, or distribution operations.

• Proven leadership experience in managing teams and cross-functional operational processes.

• Experience with both domestic and international shipping, inclusive of customs and duties coordination.

• Strong working knowledge of carrier management, freight billing concepts, shipment execution, and process enhancement.

• Experience or familiarity with the operations of a distribution company is highly desirable.
