This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Oregon.
• Provide strategic financial guidance and counsel the Executive Director and Board on matters of organizational sustainability, reserves, investments, and long-term financial planning.
• Lead the creation of annual operating budgets, expense authorization systems, grant budgets, and multi-year financial forecasts.
• Prepare financial statements, dashboards, variance analyses, and reports for executives.
• Ensure robust internal controls, accounting policies, fund accounting, and adherence to GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
• Direct cash flow management, liquidity planning, and banking relationships.
• Oversee financial reporting and compliance for foundation, government, and institutional grants.
• Collaborate with the Accounting Manager to complete the annual audit and maintain relationships with auditors.
• Prepare and file the 990 form, develop and enforce financial policies, and enhance enterprise risk management.
• Manage fiscal sponsor arrangements.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and international financial regulations.
• Partner with leadership on compensation, benefits, insurance, and organizational financial modeling.
• Present financial reports to the Board of Directors and the Finance & Personnel Committee.
• Supervise, mentor, and develop the Accounting Manager and prospective finance staff.
• Evaluate and enhance financial systems, technology, and business processes.
• Support strategic initiatives through financial analysis, scenario planning, and decision-making assistance.
• Build collaborative relationships with program leaders to enhance financial stewardship throughout the organization.
• Work alongside the Regranting Manager to strengthen and streamline internal systems for regranting management, ensuring compliance, transparency, and sustainability while reducing organizational risk.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in finance/accounting.
• At least 5 years of experience in a leadership role within a finance department or senior finance leadership position.
• Significant experience working in a nonprofit organization.
• Considerable experience in supporting financial operations within an international organization or NGO.
• Extensive experience with nonprofit fund accounting, restricted funding, grants management, budgeting, forecasting, audits, and financial reporting.
• Proven track record of presenting financial information to Boards of Directors.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, Uniform Guidance, and internal controls.
• Experience in supervising finance professionals.
