This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Take ownership of the technical roadmap for Pantheon's hosting infrastructure, enhancing reliability, scalability, and performance across hundreds of thousands of customer sites and billions of monthly requests.
• Guide and mentor Engineering Managers and senior engineers, fostering a high-performing team that emphasizes ownership, operational rigor, and continuous improvement.
• Drive architectural decisions for large-scale distributed systems, focusing on edge delivery, caching strategies, database operations, and multi-tenant infrastructure.
• Establish and uphold SLOs, observability standards, and incident response practices that maintain platform stability and instill customer confidence.
• Directly manage critical customer escalations, comprehending the technical intricacies of customer operations and communicating effectively under pressure.
• Assess technical debt in relation to platform stability, making informed trade-offs that ensure system health as it scales.
• Represent Pantheon's technical interests with significant technology partners and vendors.
• Promote AI-native engineering practices within the team, incorporating AI tools into workflows, automation, and architectural decision-making.
• Over 12 years of engineering experience, including more than 3 years in a managerial role overseeing other managers.
• Experience at a company that provides cloud services, understanding the operational responsibilities of infrastructure relied upon by customers.
• A proven history of leading high-performing engineering teams through significant technical transformations.
• Exceptional executive-level communication skills, capable of conveying complex infrastructure concepts to product, sales, and executive audiences.
• Extensive experience in on-call operations and managing customer escalations at scale.
• Advanced proficiency in GCP, AWS, or Azure, alongside container orchestration systems such as Kubernetes.
• In-depth knowledge of distributed systems, cloud-native infrastructure, and large-scale multi-tenant hosting environments.
• Practical experience with the database and caching technologies that support production web infrastructure: Nginx, MySQL, Redis, Memcached, PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch.
• Strong understanding of web runtime environments, including PHP, Node.js, and related application server technologies.
• Familiarity with CDN and edge delivery architecture, including caching strategies, cache invalidation, and edge performance optimization.
• Proficient in Go, Python, or similar systems-oriented programming languages.
• Experience supporting AI-native development workflows, including LLM integration and agentic automation.
• Staff-level architectural insight with a history of leading decisions through comprehensive technical discussions.
