Director of Engineering – Fiber Design

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida.

📋 Description

• Supervise the implementation of all Engineering management tasks to ensure the efficiency of end-to-end delivery concerning timelines, budgets, and build quality.

• Accountable for managing and guaranteeing that all internal and external market Engineering teams fulfill weekly and monthly HHP production commitments.

• Create designs for fiber outside plant networks, ensuring that designs and deployments comply with company policies and industry standards (FTTH, fiber access networks, and fiber backbone networks).

• Allocate resources and oversee subcontractor activities in alignment with project/client procedures, scope of work, and contract specifications.

• Formulate resource plans, assess capacity requirements against delivery objectives, and schedule delivery timelines based on resource availability.

• Coordinate outside plant engineering efforts with other utilities, municipalities, or property owners.

• Develop plans to obtain all necessary permits and pole attachments, collaborating closely with contractors, designers, pole owners, and federal, state, and local agencies.

• Ensure the team has a thorough understanding of project scope details, identify and anticipate potential risks and uncertainties in meeting delivery commitments (timeline, budget, and/or quality), and devise and implement mitigation strategies in collaboration with key stakeholders.

• Exhibit strong financial insights in the planning and management of annual capital budgets for expansion and FTTH development.

• Analyze data to make informed operational and commercial decisions, outlining the pros and cons of those choices for internal stakeholders, clients, and property owners.

• Collaborate with the Supply Chain department to create a strategic sourcing plan and effectively oversee the entire material procurement lifecycle, including forecasting, ordering, and merchandise returns.

• Cultivate robust relationships with key partners and stakeholders across the organization to achieve goals and objectives.

• Ensure adherence to all construction and design standards.

• Verify that standard invoicing and approval processes are maintained for all projects, ensuring that as-built documents are submitted accurately and on time.

• Establish and lead quality control initiatives for construction that align with corporate construction and design standards across markets.

• Foster and maintain positive relations with local utilities, vendors, contractors, and governmental agencies.

• Guarantee compliance with company safety standards.

• Observe, promote, and audit company safety protocols, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local regulatory guidelines at all times.

• Identify engineering opportunities, advocate for change, and initiate innovative ideas.

• Demonstrate and hold team members accountable for upholding the brand, ensuring the appropriate representation of the client's brand (name, logo, company, appearance, and attitude) within their respective teams and the organization.


⛳️ Requirements

• A BS degree in a relevant engineering or technology discipline is mandatory.

• A minimum of 10 years of experience in the telecommunications sector is essential.

• Background in fiber engineering.

• Strong project management experience is required.

• Advanced knowledge of FTTH Networks.

• Proficient in fiber optic design and the ability to read and interpret utility data and maps.

• Capability to multitask and manage various projects simultaneously.

• Exceptional leadership skills with a proven track record of supervising and motivating teams.

• Comprehensive understanding of OSHA regulations, both federal and state.

• Advanced knowledge of Federal Communications Commission regulations.

• In-depth knowledge of Fiber Optic theory.

• Familiarity with the National Electric Code and National Electric Safety Code.

• Demonstrated organizational agility.

• Proven strategic agility.
