This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Take ownership of the architecture within the Exchange domain, actively engaging in writing production code for key system components.
• Develop the complete Exchange system along with its sub-components: matching engine, risk engine, settlement, data indexing, cold data storage, API / CLI / SDK, oracle, and the foundational infrastructure (Kubernetes, Terraform).
• Lead the engineering organization, which includes senior engineers and dedicated pods, overseeing timelines, roadmaps, and resource allocation.
• Propel product and customer outcomes with a business-oriented mindset, fostering urgency and frequent iterations.
• Aim to make the organization as productive and efficient as possible.
• Oversee the comprehensive automation of engineering processes, including agent infrastructure, logging, telemetry, and observability—closing the loop with self-improvement cycles to enhance organizational context for agentic execution.
• Collaborate with the CEO and executive team to design team structures and incentive programs.
• Manage a diverse, international workforce.
• Champion high-quality infrastructure—focusing on telemetry, observability, and rigorous automated testing (e2e, property, fuzz, invariants)—while establishing high standards for code review, on-call duties, and incident responses, especially concerning financial handling. Ensure correctness and performance are always demonstrable, never assumed.
• Mentor individual contributors and technical leads.
• Communicate effectively through design documents, RFCs, and post-mortems.
• A minimum of 8 years in production software development, including at least 2 years in an engineering leadership position (tech lead, staff, principal, or architect across multiple teams).
• Proven experience with high-throughput, low-latency systems and a strong understanding of concurrent and parallel systems.
• Deep hands-on proficiency with the technology stack: Rust, Go, Next.js/TS or Node, GCP.
• Strong architectural skills with a sound understanding of correctness, latency, throughput, and operability trade-offs.
• Business-oriented and focused on achieving outcomes.
• Resilient and logical, capable of maintaining composure under pressure and reasoning from fundamental principles.
• AI-forward, enthusiastic about leveraging the latest AI tools and advancing automation within the organization.
• Experience in mentoring senior engineers and developing tech leads.
• Proficient in written and spoken English; async-first with significant overlap with US Pacific time (ideally suited for a U.S.-based hire).
• Exchange-specific knowledge: extensive understanding of exchange/trading systems or comparable transaction-processing architecture; expertise in matching, risk, and settlement correctness; familiarity with market data (indexing, cold storage); experience with API/SDK/CLI interfaces; understanding of oracle design.
