This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Hawaii, +6 more states.
• Take charge of Shippo’s representation and voice in prominent developer communities such as Reddit (r/webdev, r/ecommerce, r/opensource), GitHub, Stack Overflow, Hacker News, and Dev.to — engaging genuinely rather than solely for promotional purposes.
• Foster and maintain relationships with developers, indie hackers, and technical founders who are utilizing or assessing Shippo’s API.
• Identify, develop, and energize developer champions and power users who can organically advocate for Shippo within their networks.
• Monitor discussions in developer forums, communities, and social media channels regarding Shippo, shipping APIs, and e-commerce integrations — engaging constructively and relaying product feedback internally.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering to ensure that Shippo’s developer documentation, API references, quickstart guides, and code samples serve as a true growth catalyst — rather than just a support tool.
• Oversee the content strategy aimed at developers: tutorials, integration guides, use-case walkthroughs, and "how to ship with Shippo API" resources that expedite time-to-first-call.
• Align marketing initiatives with in-product moments, lifecycle stages, and usage indicators across the self-serve process to enhance activation, onboarding, and feature adoption.
• Detect documentation gaps and content opportunities by monitoring where developers encounter obstacles, which questions frequently arise in support channels, and what competitors excel in.
• Create and implement a content strategy targeting developers through owned and earned channels: technical blog posts, code-centric tutorials, demo repositories, video guides, and developer newsletters.
• Position Shippo as a reputable authority in the shipping and logistics API sector through thought leadership that addresses genuine developer challenges — such as carrier rate shopping, label generation, multi-carrier integrations, and more.
• Determine the appropriate developer conferences, podcasts, newsletters, and publications where Shippo should be present, and develop a scalable strategy for engagement in these venues.
• Track where developers discover new tools and APIs (ProductHunt, HackerNews, newsletters like TLDR, podcasts, YouTube) and create programs to enhance Shippo’s visibility in those platforms.
• Design, manage, and execute hackathons — including both Shippo-hosted events and participation in major developer hackathons like DeveloperWeek — from challenge design through to prize distribution.
• Identify and oversee Shippo’s involvement at developer conferences and meetups (API World, DeveloperWeek, local hackathons), including sponsorships, speaking opportunities, and on-the-ground activations.
• Assess the downstream effects of developer events on self-serve signups, API activations, and community growth — continually refining the event strategy based on return on investment.
• Act as the internal representative of the developer community — conveying structured feedback from forums, support tickets, and direct conversations to Product, Engineering, and GTM leadership.
• Collaborate with the Product Marketing team to synchronize developer messaging with broader GTM positioning throughout the Shippo platform.
• Work alongside Demand Generation and Growth Marketing to ensure that developer-specific campaigns and nurture flows are precise, impactful, and appropriately sequenced.
• Define and manage the KPIs for developer marketing: API signups, documentation engagement, self-serve activation rates, developer community growth, and event-attributed pipeline.
• 4–7 years of marketing experience with a minimum of 2–3 years specifically focused on developer audiences, developer relations, or building technical communities.
• Profound understanding of the channels, forums, and communities where developers discover tools, exchange knowledge, and make adoption decisions — you actively participate in these communities, not just observe.
• Experience in creating technical content tailored for developer audiences: API tutorials, code samples, integration guides, technical blog posts, or developer documentation.
• Practical experience in planning and executing hackathons — covering challenge design, judging criteria, logistics, prizes, and community follow-up.
• Familiarity with APIs and developer tooling at both a conceptual and practical level — you are capable of reading API documentation, executing a cURL command, and comprehending what constitutes a positive or negative developer experience.
• While not mandatory to be a full-stack engineer, you should possess a mindset that aligns with one.
• Understanding of product-led growth (PLG) and self-serve go-to-market strategies, along with how marketing initiatives can facilitate activation and expansion within a developer-first funnel.
• Experience with developer-focused marketing in an API platform, SaaS, or infrastructure company (shipping, logistics, e-commerce, or fintech experience is a significant advantage).
• Excellent written communication skills — you can articulate clearly for a technical audience without being condescending, and for a non-technical audience without being imprecise.
• A data-driven mindset with the capability to define success metrics, monitor performance, and iterate on programs based on effectiveness.
• Bonus: Experience with developer newsletters, building open source communities, SDK/library maintenance, or previous involvement as a developer advocate.
• Healthcare coverage for medical, dental, and vision (90% covered by the company, including dependents).
• Pet coverage is also available!
• Flexible vacation policy with take-as-much-as-you-need vacation days & flexible working hours.
• One week-long company-wide winter slowdown.
• 3 Volunteer Days Off (VTOs).
• Work-from-home stipend to set up your home office.
• Charity donation match up to $100.
• Dedicated programs, coaching, tools, and resources for your professional growth, along with an individual learning stipend for personal development.
• Enjoy fun in-person team time through our Shippos Everywhere program, which includes regular team and company off-sites throughout the year, as well as local Shippos gatherings.
