Director of Data

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• The Director of Data is tasked with establishing and leading IMS's data organization, transforming 30 years of proprietary case outcome data into a sustainable, defensible advantage in AI and analytics.

• Develop and implement a comprehensive data strategy and roadmap that encompasses architecture, quality, governance, and security.

• Construct modern data infrastructure, including a cloud data warehouse/lakehouse, ingestion pipelines, and foundational MLOps.

• Set standards for data quality, lineage, and metadata.

• Initiate and oversee the data engineering and data science functions.

• Collaborate with the Head of Product Management to translate proprietary case outcome data into operational AI capabilities.

• Create and manage feature stores, model deployment pipelines, and monitoring systems essential for the reliable execution of predictive models.

• Oversee the data governance framework, addressing privilege management, client-conflict walls, data retention, and access controls.

• Ensure that data privacy and security practices align with the needs of legal clients.

• Lead the technical evaluation of data assets for potential acquisitions as part of IMS's M&A initiatives.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is necessary.

• Over 10 years of experience in data engineering, data architecture, or analytics leadership, including a minimum of 5 years in a senior leadership position.

• Proven experience in constructing ML/AI infrastructures that support production predictive models, including feature stores, MLOps, and model deployment/monitoring.

• A successful history of integrating various data systems post-acquisition, which involves large-scale data migration and reconciliation.

• A robust background in data governance and security, preferably within a regulated or confidentiality-sensitive sector.

• Familiarity with data privacy regulations pertinent to legal industry operations and UK/EU expansion, including GDPR.

• Demonstrated ability to build, lead, and nurture high-performing data teams as the function grows.

• Strong leadership abilities, encompassing coaching, accountability, and cross-functional collaboration.

• Experience in legal, financial services, or other regulated professional services data is highly desirable.

• Knowledge of litigation case outcome data, expert witness, or consulting engagement data structures is considered a significant advantage.
