Director of Accounting, Tax Services, CPA

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• **Technical Oversight & Signing:** Review and approve federal and state tax returns as well as monthly financial statements. Ensure technical precision and adherence to GAAP standards across all client assignments.

• **Service Delivery Management:** Supervise tax and accounting projects for a varied client base, guaranteeing that all monthly closing and tax deadlines are consistently met.

• **People Leadership:** Directly oversee Managers, Seniors, and Staff members. Provide coaching, manage performance, and play a crucial role in hiring and capacity planning.

• **Operational Excellence:** Track team utilization and realization rates. Identify workflow challenges and implement process enhancements to improve the firm's overall efficiency.

• **Risk & Advisory:** Act as the main technical escalation point for the team, using independent professional judgment to manage risks and address complex client challenges.

⛳️ Requirements

• **Credentials:** **An active CPA license in good standing is mandatory.**

• **Experience:** **10+ years of progressive experience** in public accounting, including substantial experience as a signing tax preparer.

• **Leadership:** Demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor, and develop accounting and tax professionals.

• **Technical Breadth:** Strong understanding of both tax compliance and GAAP financial reporting for small to midsize enterprises.

• **Soft Skills:** A composed, steady presence in high-pressure situations along with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly to non-financial business owners.
