This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio, +1 more state.
• Formulate and implement government affairs strategies that advocate for and safeguard company interests within federal and state policy frameworks.
• Recognize legislative, regulatory, and political changes that could impact business operations, procurement possibilities, product uptake, or enterprise risk.
• Oversee relationships with external lobbyists, consultants, trade associations, and policy advisors to further company goals.
• Track and evaluate legislative and regulatory developments, assessing their potential effects on Cengage businesses.
• Deliver regular policy updates and strategic insights to business leaders and senior management.
• Assist advocacy initiatives on topics such as K-12 education, postsecondary education, workforce development, privacy, AI, technology, data, and innovation.
• Craft policy positions, briefing documents, and engagement strategies that promote company objectives.
• Inform internal stakeholders about policy changes and government affairs activities.
• Distill complex policy issues for business audiences and aid teams in grasping practical implications.
• Establish and sustain productive relationships with government officials, policymakers, agency representatives, and industry stakeholders.
• Collaborate with Legal, Communications, Sales, and business leaders to align responses to emerging policy issues.
• Assist in rapid-response initiatives concerning significant legislative, regulatory, or political changes.
• 8–12 years of experience in government affairs, public policy, government relations, or a related field.
• Background in handling education policy matters at the federal and/or state level.
• Proven track record of influencing policy outcomes and promoting organizational objectives.
• Deep understanding of legislative and regulatory processes.
• Exceptional communication, relationship management, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
• Capability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.
